August 9, 200520 yr FS Genesis does offer a finer resolution for the US, parts of Canada and Alasksa directly from FSGenesis. Both companies offer a package on DVD with higher resolution for the entire world. FSGenesis's DVD is called Extreme Landscapes and published by Abacus.FSGenesis has updated some of their Alaska/Canada mesh to work better with Ultimate Terrain:Canada, and will do the same in the future if necessary. I believe these updates are and will only be for products purchased directly from him, so that excludeds the Abacus product. He also worked with Allen of Ultimate Terrain to get his US Landclass product to work with UT.I don't have personal experience with the FSGlobal folks, but I have been a customer of Justin's at FSGenesis since the FS98 days and I highly recommend him.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
August 9, 200520 yr Author I own the FS Global 2005 package. It covers a big part of the world in 76m resolution (sampled from 90m SRTM Data) and the remote regions which unfortunatly aren't covered by SRTM are improved aswell. The terrain rendering looks very nice and accurate to me. It sure makes the fs world much more realistic.Parts of the Alps are sampled from higher resolution local map data (about 25m resolution) and converted also to 76m resolution (it resoluts in greater accuracy but not higher resolution). The remote parts of the world above and over about 60 degrees north or south aren't covered by SRTM so they had to take other data. It seems like the data is not very high resolution because you'll get very round looking mountains in those areas (like northern canada, parts of scandinavia etc., but this is a problem most have to fight with unless you get you're hand on other topographic data). What I like about FS Global 2005 is it's ease of installation, accurate data processing and the fair pricing. You'll get an update to the entire planet in just a few minutes. It ships on two dvd's and contains 12 Gbyte of data.I'm a happy costumer.Hope this helps, cheers,CG
August 10, 200520 yr FSG2005 is a must as far as I'm concerned. You get the complete world packaged in 1 set, and although it may not offer details in some areas, you'll probably find you may not fly in those areas very often.Great value, like I said, a must have for FS9.Del.____________________________________________AMD64 3400+ATi Radeon 9800SE 256MB (softmod to 9800 PRO)2 X 512Mb DDR333 Kingston RAM 200Gb Seagate Barracuda SATA 7200 HDD(x32 XP SP2 Home)40GB Hitachi SATA 7200 HDD (x64 XP Pro)Abit AV8 Pro moboSony DVD-ROMLG DVD-RW"How wide the limits stand, between a splendid and a happy land"http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg[/img]
August 10, 200520 yr I am also a very happy user of FSGlobal2005.I live in Switzerland and I can tell you (based on some test areas in the Alps) that the scenery is very acurate in comparison to other mesh freeware or payware products (default, older LAGO mesh for Europe and others). Also in other parts of the world that I know from travelling, the scenery looks extremely real with FSGlobal2005.Walter
August 10, 200520 yr One last question about FSGenesis. Does'nt FSGenesis provide a higher resolution than FSGlobal 2005? Thank you everyone for your input.
August 10, 200520 yr >One last question about FSGenesis. Does'nt FSGenesis provide>a higher resolution than FSGlobal 2005? Thank you everyone for>your input.Yes, they do provide a higher resolution for the US, Alaska and parts of Canada. I believe they have even put a verson of their high-res mesh here in the Avsim library as a gift to simmers.Their Extreme Landscapes package is also for the entire world, and uses the same resolution as FSGobal. I have not used either of these world wide packages, but they do sound like they are very similar to each other.=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
August 10, 200520 yr I bought the FSGenesis Hawaiian Island 9.6m package and the Cordillera Canada 38.2m. Doing flights in a 747 from CYVR-KHNL. Now I'm just waiting for the "free" CDs in the mail FSGen shipped out...
August 10, 200520 yr FSGenesis is the best, better and more accurate coverage, plus you get constant updatesjust a slight correction to the last poster, it's PHNL
August 10, 200520 yr Author Yes FSGenesis does provide greater resolution in the US, Canada and some other regions (38m resolution based on more accurate DEM Data in the US). I like the work of FSGenesis very much. I have the whole US (38m resolution) which is a very generous gift of FSGenesis. You can download it at flightsim.com for free.regards,CG
