Airplane crashes question

Featured Replies

After watching some plane crash videos, I wonder whether such is possible to simulate in FS as well.E.g. is there any add-on which allows for partial gear landings, and are semi-crashes possible at all or do the contact points automatically trigger a full crash?Andreas

I seem to remember seeing something that augmented the default FS9 crash effects, so you should be able to find it doing a search in the file section. And yes, I think semi-crashes are possible. I've done some go arounds after a nasty bump where my landing gear wouldn't retract and there were sparks flying out the back. However, I think you'll find that most of us, especially as the sim becomes more realistic with all of the incredible addons that have been coming out lately, try to stay away from crashes and certainly don't look to "enhance" them. IMHO, that's more for an arcade game. billg

I probably used the wrong words to form my question, so I start over:I don't look for fancy crash effects and such (in fact, I have them with Grant Bovee's CrashBack). What I'm searching is a way to simulate gear failures during landing, belly landings, ditching etc.I'm not on the arcade side as well, but partial gear landings have a certain probability. Now I'm wondering whether FS in general allows for such situations to be "playable" at all, or if the internal crash detection logic forbids such scenarios to be taken to a lucky ending. If it's theoretically possible in FS9 to land with only one main gear out, then comes the next questions: which add-on allows such a failure to happen, and would the plane react in a more or less realistical way (e.g. by falling over to the gear-less side, with (in reality) an exploding engine pod)?So far, all my water landings with normal planes were unsuccessful. That's why I'm asking: is the reason for this the internal crash logic and the type of contact points?Andreas

Water landings are at best ROUGH. I think the simulator does a full crash for any non-seaplane. Water landing with an airliner, yikes. I have to admit that I don't think any crash effects are cool, or really necessary. The coding and testing necessary would be better put towards simulating FLIGHT better.

I see what you're asking Andreas. I think there is. I'm sure I've landed with one of the 2 main gear retracted and with a realistic falling over to that side, sparks included. As I said, this was after a go around, but I think there is a way to model it. Would certainly classify as a failure, albeit a potentially catastrophic one. And yes, like Robert says, water landings without floats don't work. Certainly not with airliners, but I think the programming logic is such that any landing on water with any aircraft at any speed is considered a crash. Again, I'm not positive on this, but it's been my experience. billg

I have the Wings of Power add-on from Shockwave and I recall being able to ditch a B-17 at very slow speeds into shallow water. FS9 did not register a crash and you can see that the aircraft is clearly floating on water. When you try restarting the engines you can actually see the props splashing the water around even though the engines do not actually start working. I also believe you are allowed to do belly landings as well with this add-on.

Hey there,There is program that is sooooo cooool, you won
