Using GoFlight Interface tool with "Keyboard"

I'm trying to make my own aircraft panel out of some leftover arcade buttons, and I've run into a bit of a problem with the GoFlight Interface tool.

I have a board that will act as a keyboard when you press a button that is wired up to it. What I can't figure out is, how can I use GoFlight Interface tool with normal keyboard presses?

 

For example: I press one of my arcade buttons, and it sends a signal to my computer to press the key 'X'. Then I want the interface tool to toggle the APU on.
