October 7, 200520 yr Hello, I have the latest version of ActiveSky great product really enhances flight. I have a couple of questions is there anyone out there that owns the latest ActiveSky & Weather-maker Pro 3? If so what are the differences between the two? And how does one depict weather better than the other? One thing I have noticed in FS is this. Of course being a pilot you are most likely going to avoid flying in a serious T-Storm. But I have flown it into some that probably should had the plane's rivets popping out. And of course with the ActiveSky it gets turbulent and it's bouncy but I wonder if there would be a way to depict a serious thunderstorm to the point to where you didn't pay attention to the Metar/weather report. It could cause damage to your plane or the turbulent would be so nasty if depicted in the weather report it would be like tailing in behind an airliner to land and being to close to it getting caught up in the jet blast. Or what if Hail is depicted in a weather report and in the sim I can fly right through it... If I did that in the real world I would end up a lawn dart I would think. ActiveSky & Weather-maker Pro 3 is there much of a difference between the two and if so could someone please give me details. I already have the latest ActiveSky but I may consider trying out Weather-maker Pro 3. I have Flight Enviroment so the textures in ActiveSky I haven't put to use yet... Thanks Fellow Simmers, Josh
October 8, 200520 yr Hi,Super strong turbulence went out when we needed to get rid of FS04's severe wind shifts. Pete and others solved this through FSUIPC and that was the trade-off.You can adjust this line in your FS9.cfg file:TurbulenceScale=1.000000Hail is not modeled in FS04, so no matter which weather program you use it will not show up.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
October 8, 200520 yr Hello Josh,Weathermaker depicts the weather very accurately, and i can tell you, although both are top notch, everytime I compare them, when say there's an area where there is a thunderstorm, weather-maker just feels and looks more like the real thing. Also when flying through it, your plane will get all kind of effects, like being bounced around and heavy rain / snow / hail. It's all about personal favours, decide for yourself. Besides, FE2004 supports Weather-maker Pro to the fullest and both developers are working closely on the current and future improvements.regards,Anthony
October 8, 200520 yr AS is by far the most complete and most accurate real time weather engine. Nothing comes close to it and I have tried them all.
October 8, 200520 yr They are both great programs. The difference I see is every time there is an update in Weather maker pro sends me an email and a link. With Active Sky which is great by the way) I happened to stumble over a post here on avsim that an update was available.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
October 8, 200520 yr Hi Josh,The things you are looking are limited in fs2004. Overall, my personal choice remain Active Sky without doubt, there too much good thing that's I like. When I look out the windows, it's like the real things. See these previous post related to Active Sky, there is no doubt about it.BestPeter
