Re: Localiser will not 'lock on'....

Featured Replies

I've not come acroos this problem before. Landing at EDDC Runway 04 on an ILS Frequency of 110.50mhz I found that the Localiser would not lock on, the Glideslope was 'spot on' - can anyone help help, please?KenSomerset, England

Ken, Just did two ILS approaches into Dresden (EDDC), Rwy 04 using 110.50mHz. I had no problems either time catching the localizer or glideslope and have the A/P lock on to either one of them. Landings both times were on the numbers. Here are things to remember when doing an ILS with FS9:1. Approach the glidepath from underneath the beam2. Approach the localizer from within + or - 20 degrees of the beam3. Adjust the approach speed according to that required for the aircraft you are flying (usually 140-160kts for heavies or 70-90kts for GA)4. Disengage the A/P when over the thresholdHope this helps.Regards,

Hi John,Thank you for your reply.I'll keep those pointers in mind, the other thing that helps me is the fact that you have flown that approach twice today, without problems; therefore it also confirms that the beam is ok.KenSomerset, England

Might be irrelevant in your case - but watch out for the NAV/GPS switch.

Hi Reggie,Thanks for your reply, although there is not a NAV/GPS switch on board the PMDG B737NG (no GPS at all), it's a point to remember when using aircraft that do have such a switch. I've never given the NAV/GPS switch a second glance before.KenSomerset, England
