Frankfurt Runway 18

Featured Replies

Hi fellow simmers! When ever I am in Frankfurt (EDDF) in FS9, the only runways I and my AI traffic can use are 25R/L and 07R/L. What disturbes me is that from plane spotting, almost all the traffic takes off from runway 18. Runway 18 is not even an option in my ATC window, even if the wind comes from 180 degrees.I use:-FS9-Justflight Dash 8 Frankfurt scenery-FlightOne Ultimate Traffic

Frankfurt is a problem airport in FS. The parallel pairs are in use because they have instrument approaches written into the basic airport data.In the default airport Rwy 18 is one way only - Rwy 36 is closed to all landing and takeoff traffic - however Rwy 18 is open to LANDING and takeoff traffic. The most critical element for runway assignment in FS is the availablility of an instrument approach, weather being secondary. There is a technique using fake runways to fool FS into believeing that Rwy 25 and Rwy 18 are parallel. This will allow a LOT of takeoffs on Rwy 18, but mainly from the cargo area. You as the user could choose to takeoff from Rwy 18.But you will have to accept some landings on Rwy 18.EDDF is an airport which is not going to work according to real world rules in FS2004If the compromises are acceptable to you - and that includes having an ATIS which will be even more unreliable than normal - you might search for an AFCAD which uses "Crossing Runways".I don't personally know of one but I'm sure someone has made one.
