New GPU on a P8Z68-V mobo?

Hi all,

 

 I have an Asus P8Z68-V mobo of which an EVGA GTX660Ti is installed. P3dv3.4 seems to struggle a bit with it so I was thinking to upgrade to something like a 980 GTX

The bios is up to date on the mobo according to Asus but I was wondering if this generation of mobo would support the updated GPU.

 

I'd appreciate if anyone has experienced this kind of updating and might point me in the right direction.
