How do I adjust fuel flow in FS9 flight plans?

Featured Replies

I don't use any addon software to create my flight plans in FS9. When I create the flight plans using the default planner, I notice that the required fuel is not even close to correct on some aircraft. This makes it difficult to know how much fuel will be needed for the flight. The way I set up my flights is, I pick the aircraft first, then create the flight plan, finally adjust my fuel and weight / balance. Granted the errors in the fuel consumption does not happen with all aircraft, just some. For example, the Veneaviones Turbo Commander is one of the best aircraft available to everyone. When I select this aircraft for a flight within its max range, the FS9 flight planner will tell me I need more fuel than is actually necessary. I did a test flight from Chicago Midway,IL to Reading, PA. With my flight plan laid out, I was told that I needed 395 gallons of fuel. When in reality I only needed about half that. After the flight I looked at my finished flight plan and saw that the actual fuel burn was half of what the default flight planner told me. Long story short... Is there a way to edit the aircraft.cfg file to have it calculate the fuel closer to what is actual? If so how would I do this?Thank you,Kevin

Me too; same problem. (Bump). R-

No takers on this one, eh? I am surprised either no one else has had this problem or they do but don't know how to fix it. :D Completely understandable that FS has some quirks to it. If any one has some ideas, feel free to shout it out. :D No big deal it is not stopping me from flying....:DThanks,Kevin

You're absolutely, right the flight planner is way off on its fuel calculations. I have not found any way to fix it, but I'll tell you what I do:When I get a new plane I do a test flight to determine its fuel flow with the settings I use. I calculate fuel to top of climb, cruise fuel flow, and fuel for descent. Then I do some math based on these numbers for my flights (I made an excel file to do the math for me based on distance).
