OK, so who's had enough time on their hands to download and compare Holger and Raimondo's versions of the Himalayas this week?!All input received with great interest!MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Hi Mark,I spent some time comparing the three mesh files that are now using Jonathan de Ferranti's data: Raimondo's, Justin's updated FS Genesis mesh (payware) and my version. I uploaded an extensive set of comparison screenshots here: http://holger.fs-shipyards.net/images/mesh...ranti_variants/Sorry about the poor "presentation". It's probably best to download a couple of the images and then view them with MS PhotoViewer or a similar tool; flipping back and forth between them reveals the differences in detail and accuracy. The images should speak for themselves. It seems that Justin's and my effort are very similar (except for a small positional offset between the two) while Raimondo's files are quite different. Actually, I only looked at Ray's Everest area file (himalaya38_5.bgl), which is why not all the comparisons include shots of his project. It appears that Raimondo used some kind of sharpening filter to "enhance" the source data, which does provide more apparent detail but also creates those odd spikes and regular grid patterns.Hope that helps.Cheers, HolgerP.S.: I'm planning on uploading the final parts of both of my Himalayas mesh series on Thursday.

Thank you very much, Holger, for your comprehensive reply. Great.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Hey allJust to let you know: I've been in contact with Einar Aarvik who is the author of Nepal and Kashmir sceneries. A few files needed adjustment. He asked me to upload the files he sent me, which I'll probably do tonight. There's a brand new airport included!I'll include a Shangri-La Air repaint of Dantes' Twotter and invisible heliport files and (equally fictional scientist's ;) beacons for Everest and K2. Bring out the 3D skiers! Thanks Holger and Ferranti for the wonderful Himalayan files, it's a fine representation of this immensely beautyful landscape. It must be the most beautyful place on Earth. (There are many such places.)Cheers,-dasher7

Good news, Dasher, I was wondering about Einar's work myself, having not tested it yet with Holger's work. And combined with Eric's Twotter in a Shangri-La paint? Now we're talking.... bravo!
