February 28, 200620 yr Over the past couple of months, I've been collecting and flying various aircraft from the Allegheny Airlines fleet. One of the truly interesting examples of this effort is the de Havilland DH-114 Heron. Considered the world's smallest four engine airliner, its not got good looks, nor speed, but it definitely has a lot of character. Although you can download a serviceable example of the Heron in classic Allegheny speedwedge right here (alghero.zip), I'd love to see a new creation on the order of the Dove with a good panel. So designers of great talent, consider the Heron.lynx
February 28, 200620 yr I'm pretty certain Derek Palmer has got a Heron in the pipeline. Unfortunately it seems that panel designer Sav Maurri has been out of action for some time, which probably means that the Heron won't fly today or tomorrow. But
March 3, 200620 yr Thanks very much for the information, Jaap. It's difficult to find a good panel for a small four engine prop plane as there are so few small four engine prop planes in the world. I'm using a Viscount panel in my Heron but that's hardly even near realistic. At least it's British.lynx
April 10, 200620 yr I discovered recently that Allegheny Airlines flew the Dove. I acquired a photo of it on eBay. If it would help/encourage a repaint in this livery, I'd be glad to scan it although it is in black and white. These little de Havillands are great flyers and I'd still really like to see a new Heron. lynx
April 10, 200620 yr I just wanted to add that TAG airlines, during the 60's, flew the Heron and Doves out of Detroit City Airport to Cleveland and a few other cities. The airplane does have character.
