GE and VOZ

Featured Replies

I posted the following on another forum, in response to a general question about what is and is not compatible with GE. I ended up writing about the interaction with VOZ, and thought that this might be particularly useful for flyers who have VOZ, like it, and are wondering what will happen if they purchase GE:GE is compatible with everything EXCEPT other ground textures. So, go ahead and combine it with terrain mesh, landclass, object sceneries (by which I mean sceneries that place 3d objects on top of the terrain), and Ultimate Terrain. That's what I and probably most of the other testers do. The only place you are going to have conflict is with other ground texture packages, such as FScene, BEV, and VOZ. When I say "conflict," I don't mean your machine is going to start pouring smoke. But one of these packages is going to "win" and overwrite the others -- namely, the one that you install or activate last. Theoretically, you could install a bit of BEV and a bit of GE -- but the places where they butt up against each other are going to look funny. No harm in trying, though -- if it goes pear-shaped, you can just reinstall whichever texture set you feel like using.I mention VOZ here only with reluctance, since VOZ is more than ground textures. But if you install GE on top of VOZ, you are going to see GE textures, not VOZ textures. (Note: you will still see all the other VOZ stuff, just not the textures.) Let me add that GE has a very simple interface for creating texture SETS and then switching between them. So, when you fly in Queensland, you could switch to the Queensland set, then switch back to GE when you fly in, say, Canada. (I think that BEV can create texture sets, too, but maybe someone else can verify.)Don't try this in mid-flight. As you leave Queensland airspace (or whenever you decide to make the switch back to GE), save your flight and exit the sim. Run the GE installer and make the switch. Then reload the sim and continue your flight. Yes, it takes a few minutes. But that flight was going to take many HOURS anyway. Or, you could just install GE and enjoy the other features of VOZ without the VOZ regional textures. Landclass, roads, shorelines -- everything else is compatible.

I don't have GE but the process should be the same as switching between VOZ and the default textures. Just install GE like normal and use the VOZ switcher to switch between the two. See VOZ user manual. Or does GE also have a switcher app?

GE does have a switcher.

Then there should be no prorblem. That's why switchers are included.
