April 3, 200620 yr I hope this is the right forum! I did a post on the Flightsim forum with no response. Could be Im not making myself clear. Anyway, this was my post...I just downloaded shiplib1 v.1 which is a library of 24 different commercial ship (Markus Paul) to pep up flights near and over water. I've tried a number of different things, but can't get the ships to show up anywhere in FS9.In the installation instructions according to the author, you are to: <>I created a folder and called it "ShipLibrary", once in FS9 and when that didn't work into FS9Addon Scenery. Both times I had copied the entire contents of the shiplib1.v1 "library" folder into each of them. When I went to add the folder to the FS Scenery Library the folder showed up but there wasn't anything in it, so I couldn't add it to my Scenic Library. Consequently, no ships.I must be doing something really obviously wrong. If so, I don't know what it is. I have never had this problem loading aircraft or any other addon scenery before. Maybe I don't understand the instructions? Where do the scenery and textures need to go in FS to be seen?BTW, in my settings display I have "terrain detail" for land and water on high and "water effects" on low.FYI, there are four files in the download as follows:1) LibraryEffects, Scenery, Texture2) For scenery designersAPI, Resource3) ShowcaseAddon sceneryShiptestScenery4) Flights (files-1 Shipparade (MSF application) and Shipparade.wxAny suggestions are appreciated and extremely welcome. :-) Flyhigh
April 5, 200620 yr Just to be clear: You installed the SHIPTEST scenery in Addon scenery? You don't mention that. As I understand it, one would need a scenery add on that calls the ship library
April 5, 200620 yr Hi,I can't find that file to have a look at it, but still. The folder you downloaded in a zipped format needs to be unzipped and should contain at least the following folders--1.scenery-- which will have something in it, and 2.texture-- which may be empty! Why I don't know, I'm afraid. These folders need to be inside another folder which you could create and call 'Ships' for instance. You then put this folder 'Ships' in the Addon Scenery folder.Start FS9- go to scenery and then, as you know, 'add area' which takes you to the Addon Scenery folder among all the other sceneries you may have.Click on Addon Scenery and it should open to show the sceneries inside including your 'Ship' folder.Click that one once and then click 'add area'and it should appear at the head of the queue with a red tick in the box.Etc etc...!Try your 1) first which has scenery and texture folders in it but no named folder for them to be in2) I don't know what thast is3)See inside Addon scenery as they may be there already4)Shipparade.wx looks like a weather file and would go in your Flight Simulator Files in My Documents I think.I am rapidly going out of my depth here so I'll stop! Good Luck.Andy.
April 5, 200620 yr Andy,You said,<>There is a Library folder in the zip which contains Effects, Scenery and Texture which I included as a file folder (named Shiplib1) under FSAddon Scenery, using Windows Explorer. The file does show up in the Select Scenery Directory window in the FS Scenery Library, but when I click on it to "add" it to the "Directory", nothing shows up in the window, consequently it doesn't "appear at the head of the queue with a red tick in the box".<>The zip is shiplib1.zip and can be found in the AVSIM Libraryhttp://avsim.com/http://avsim.com/Flyhigh :-)
April 5, 200620 yr Cowls,I tried installing the entire contents of the zip file under Addon Scenery which included the Shiptest, which didn't work...??? :-( Flyhigh
April 5, 200620 yr Hi there,The folders are very particular! about showing up.I found that file under Ship Library.. so now1.In the Library folder-copy 'effects' and 'texture' into FS9's same folders.Then...The 'scenery ' folder should be opened--double click-generic'--double click-scenery,--double click-and that *.bgl in there you copy and place in the same way in the scenery folder in FS9 with the other *.bgl's there.OK?!:( (You go through the same pathway -scenery-generic-scenery in FS9)2. Showcase folder.Double click 'flights'In there make a new folder -- called 'Ship Parade' perhaps.Drag the *.flt and *.wx files into that new folder. That folder can go into FS9 Flights folder. The other folder- 'Addon Scenery' double click-shiptest--double click-make a new folder in there with the 'scenery' folder called 'texture'-so you now have two folders in 'shiptest'.You can now put that folder-'shiptest' into the Addon Scenery folder in FS9 and see whether it will show up in the window!!Best of luck.Andy.
April 6, 200620 yr Hi Andy,I took your instructions, step by step and everything seems to be where it should be, in the correct folders AND the "shiptest" folder shows up in the Scenery window now. As I am sure you would suspect, the shipparade can be accessed under "Select A Flight" in FS9. Thanks! Only problem I have now is that when I create a flight near the ocean I expect to find some of the ships. Maybe Im looking in all the wrong places, but they seem to be a bit scant. I haven't found one yet in Long Island Sound (NY), New Orleans or Norfolk Va where you would find some major shipping lanes. Haven't tried the English Channel yet...Do I have to manually place the ships where I want them located or should I keep looking? :-hmmm Flyhigh
April 6, 200620 yr Author Flyhigh, yes, this is a library of ship objects that can be placed, I assume with either EZScenery (payware) or RWY12 (with APIs for older scenery programs), not a normal scenery with ships.Looks like it comes with a test flight that should show what you can do yourself.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
April 6, 200620 yr Hi there, this may be posted twice, but as Michael says you need to place the ships yourself I think. The 'flight' over the Elbe estuary just shows you what they look like and you go from there!Andy.
April 6, 200620 yr Thanks Andy - Im thinking Michael is right too. Michael, I think you are right. Right now Im in the process of downloading RWY12 v1.2. I'll see what I can do with that.By the way, the Ship Parade is quite impressive huh? Only thing I didn't like are the rectangular textures around the wakes. I understand you can bury the wakes, but I wonder if there's a way to get rid of those long rectangles behind the ships. ;-) Flyhigh
April 7, 200620 yr Author It might be possible to find the texture for the wake and that add an alpha to it to make it transparent.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
