Weird Effects on Textures.

Featured Replies

Hi All,a good friend of mine has made a texture set for me, but I have a weird texture effect that I cannot explain, and I wondered if anyone here knew what it might be.I have tried it in 32 BIT, and DXT 3 as well, both with and without MIPS.thanks for any advice,http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/149739.jpg

did you check the Alpha channel?

>did you check the Alpha channel?Hi,I don't know very much about this, so if you could elaborate some more that would be great,IE what should I have things set to, and what should I look for in particular.I have never had this before, so I don't really know what to look for.thanks for getting back to me on this though.

Hi,I've seen this many times, and it is indeed the alpha channel. When I create a TGA texture in Paint Shop Pro with an alpha channel and then load it into DXTBmp to convert it to DXT3, sometimes the alpha channel will be nothing but "white noise" in certain areas. It looks just like your image. It's possible that other texture manipulations cause it as well. The fix is to save the alpha channel separately in your paint program, and use Alpha/Import Alpha Channel in DXTBmp to load it into your image, overwriting the bad one.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___
