May 31, 200620 yr Hello fellow simmers :), I have a question concerning how to get to see larger airports sooner on the "nearest airport list" when flying vfr. It seems the airports I want to land at(kjfk, ksfo etc.) appear only when Im almost right on top of the airport(25 miles) and I dont have much time to set up for landing. If I try to tune in the approach or tower frequency for the airport I want, I dont get it..just the "nearest airport" list. Thanks for any help, Yoram
May 31, 200620 yr Author The GPS will display that frequency information about the airports - check the GPS section in the learning center - it's quite thorough and clear on how to find information.Another idea is to pre-plan your flight - either using the FS2004 flight planner map or AFCAD or real world charts to locate the frequencies and write them down. But the list of closest airports is exactly that - the nearest airport and in busy airspaces that list can be several pages long.
May 31, 200620 yr Hi Reggie..Thanks for your reply. I have no problem finding the frequency, but when I tune it in it doesn't give me the approach or tower for the airport. All I get is a nearest airport list. Yoram
June 1, 200620 yr HI Yoram. If you have planned in advance you should have the frequencies at hand. You can tune ATIS about 60 miles out on COMM2 and determine the wind (and active rwy often). That way you can at least anticipate your appraoch and get set up. Radar Contact solves this.
