June 11, 200619 yr Dear Friends,I just bought a new system and are setting my FS up. Now I have still a few questions about the search for better frame rates. The Anti-aliasing slider. Do I have to turn it on or not? I have read something about turning it off in FS and turning it on on my videocard (ATI 1800 XT). What does anti- aliasing does? And do I have to turn it off???Mip mapping. Is this a bit the same story as the anti aliasing?? On or off???and what about my BIOS. It just has the factory settings. Do I have to adjust things in the BIOS?Kind regardsKim
June 11, 200619 yr I suggest that you first read the article "FS2004 and WinXP Optimization Guide" here in the FS Hardware Discussion forum and then tune your system by stepping through their "System Optimization Guide" at www.tweakhound.com. Both offer a wealth of information about tuning and tweaking your system to suit your needs. It is REALLY worth it and informative, because FS will never shine even on a brand new system, if badly configured and not well-maintained.You are correct that your videoboard should do all the anti-aliasing, so turn in OFF in the FS display settings and enable AA/AF in your display setting on your card. But this is just the beginning. If you really want to get to know your system and tailor it to suit your needs, those guides are almost mandatory.Good luck.
June 11, 200619 yr In my experience you are best NOT letting the application handle anti-aliasing and use forced anti-aliasing on your Windows desktop settings.FireFighter

For a game like say, Half-Life 2, you're much better off setting "Application Preferrence" in your video driver control panel and then using the menu in game to set the AA/AF levels.
