June 6, 200520 yr How are the engines numbered on a 4 engine aircraft ? I say the number 1 engine is the outboard engine on the left wing, number 2 on left inboard, number 3 on right inboard and number 4 on outboard right as you are sitting in cockpit. A buddy of mine that flew bombers in WW2 says the opposite. IE number 1 starts on outboard right side and so on.Budo
June 6, 200520 yr Left to right as seen from the pilot seat is nowadays the standard. This wasn't always so. I can imagine some props that need handcranking numbering from left to right as someone standing in front of the aircraft (looking towards it) sees them, and I've heard the center engine on some aircraft referred to as the #3 (instead of #2 as would seem logical) giving an arrangement 1 3 2 for those.
June 6, 200520 yr Thanks for the reply JT.Confirms my belief. Wonder if there is any WW2 4 engine drivers out there that might have any input ?Budo
