My changes to FS9.CONFIG dont seem to work...read on

Tonight I also did some tweaks in the FS9.CONFIG and did not see anything change.Example...tried to eliminate the splash screen at startup by changing the value from 1 to 0..its still there..then I tried to scale down the vasi lights, runwaylights, by adding the given info..no change.I made a copy of my FS config file...dumped the original and restarted FS9 so it could rebuild a fresh one.I then copied my original back in where it belongs and over wrote the new one FS9 made.Still nothing changed..etc..splash screen still there.I can open it and see all of the changes made are still there.Whats up with that? Am I missing something here?Any tip or advice on how you did it much appreciated I thought mabe that there was a copy elswhere that FS9 was using but both seem to be coming from the same folder location.Thats why I tried deleting the FS9.config, let FS9 build a new one..and then I copied my original and over wrote the new one and FS9 is back to the way I originally had it.Any idea why nothing seems to be changing??

Hi Lineman,I'm not certain about this, but I believe FS9 must be shut down when you edit FS9.cfg. Your message isn't clear about whether FS9 is running or not.Regards,JerryH

Hi,Make sure you are editing FS9.cfg and not fs9cfg.txt file. The .txt file is a backup file. The correct file has a modified time as of the last time you closed FS04.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi guys,I did notice that there was a text file also and didnt change that one.Only the fs9.config I edited.Im pretty sure I did most of my editing with fs9 not running...but if I had fs9 running..I would have to reboot to see any changes anyways??so would editing that file be any different then?

Don't edit the fs9.cfg with fs9 running. Make sure its not running, edit the .cfg and then start the sim.

I made sure and retried with FS9.cfg and still nothing happened.FS was not running during any changes.I stayed working with a simple change... eliminating splash screen at startup changing the number from 1 to 0..Saved and started FS9....splash screen still come up!I did a search on my pc for all FS9.CFG files and only 2 came up.original that I am working with and the text file in the same folder.I also moved that text file out of there and it still came up with the splash screen.I am thinking that FS9 is utilizing a cfg file somewhere else??The file I am working with is in Documents and settings/user/applications/microsoft/fs9Im at a dead end here

Write protected maybe? Good luck and kind regards Jaap

You refer to the splash screen. The Show_Opening_Screen=0 that you refer to is not the screen with the DC-3 on it, it is rather the opening screen where you build a flight. Changing it to 0 movies you directly into the default flight.

First of all, make sure that you are actually changing the FS9.cfg that FS is using.E.g. , in FS9, via menu Options-Controls-Assignment, change the assignment of one of the keys or buttons. Then close FS9, and see if the change above has been made in the FS9.cfg file that you think FS9 has changed.(also note the modification date of the FS9.cfg file)If it IS a different file, look at the way you start FS9.Because (when using a shortcut), a different configuration file might be used.E.g. if the "Target" of the shortcut is "C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9fs9.exe" /CFG:MyConfigFile.cfgFS9 uses the configuration file "MyConfigFile.cfg" in the root FS9 folder.Rob
