Just Flight Lancaster

Featured Replies

Hi,Has anyone bought this yet? It looks great, I'm about to take the plunge...

I don't have it, but it's the same people who did their Spitfire package so....I have most JF stuff so far, and I've not been disappointed yet with any of their planes, or if I have it's by not buying something from them instead of elsewhere before they'd finished with it. (Capsim's Herc).

Hi there,The Lancaster package is great. The virtual cockpit and interior details are very well done. The flight model is pretty good, the sounds are a bit weak though (not throaty enough). I like the choice of 4 different models of each aircraft, each with different vc options for those that don't have high end systems, allowing you to keep your frame rates up. Compared to the ** Lancaster a vast improvement. The bundled Mosquito is a bit of a mixed bag. The visual model seems to sit too high off the ground on the main gear, The virtual cockpit is good, although the RPM gauges in the 2d cockpit are missing the thousand hand, and there are some interesting issues with throttle responses. As you increase the throttle the right engine RPM falls away leading to some yaw issues. (I'm using CH throttle quadrants calibrated with FSUIPC).The sounds are very poor, more Austin 1100 than Merlin. Is it worth

Hi David!I downloaded and installed the Lancaster today, and each and every version I tried played havoc with my framerates. I've got a by now ancient rig with a Pentium 2.4 processor and (temporarily, while my 6800 is sitting in another machine) a GeForce 4 ti 4400 videocard. Not exactly a state of the art box, but stuff like ** and MAAM buzzes along happily locked at 24 frames and rarely dips below, while the JustFlight Lanc stumbles along between about 5 and 17 fps.The Mosquito on the other hand behaves in an exemplary way and is even somewhat highish on the framerate scale. But as far as the Lanc goes: I'm not excited. And why does the installer chuck the sound folders into the aircraft folder? That's not the reason of the low framerates by the way, because if I change things around in various ways (soundfile-wise), no fps improvement results. Is this add-on truly MORE demanding than the ** and MAAM stuff? Bugger!Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

Hi All,Well after starting this thread I bought the Lanc and I am having the same problem as Jaap.I have noticed I get decent frames when travelling in a straight line, but as soon as I start to turn The frames plummet to single digits. On the positive side I have been in correspondence with Just Flight help who have taken a serious interest in this and are working on it. They have a patch planned for some other issues in a couple of weeks and hopefully they'll sort this one out soon too.Cheers, Mark.

Hi Mark!Yes indeed, it's in turns and other movements that the fps issue is most prominent. Good to hear that it's "not me", that you've taken things up with JustFlight, and that they're working on it.Good oh!Jaap Verduijn.

Hi Jaap and Mark,The answer to the question (Is this add-on truly MORE demanding than the ** and MAAM stuff?)is a big YES!.I have been testing frame rates on 2 different flights. My rig is a Dell XPS600 Pentium 4, 3.8Ghz with 2Gb Ram and 2x Nvidia 7800GTX 256mb video cards, although only 1 is used in FS2004. Windows XP SP2. I run in 1600x1200x32 @75Hz on a 19" Sony CRT with a 17" LG LCD monitor for FSNav.FS settings are AAx4, AFx8, Terrain Mesh=100, Texture size=High, Terrain Detail=Land & Water, Water=Low, Dawn & Dusk texure Blending=On, Special FX=Medium, Autogen=Extreme, Dynamic Scenery=Extreme, VC gauges=High, AC Reflections=on, AC Lights=On, Landing Lights=On, 3d Clouds=100%, 50 Mile Visibility set with FSUIPC, Detailed Clouds, Transform & Lightning=On, Mips=4, Lights=6, Global Texture=Massive and All Aircraft Traffic at 50%. I only fly using the virtual cockpit. Flight 1.RAF Coltishall to RAF Mildenhall, using VFR scenery, UK2000 airports, Ultimate Traffic, GePro, FE, WeathermakerPro 4.8 (set to real world weather) and FSNav. Upkeep Lancaster Version C with Pilot, VC, Front Turret and Bomb Aimer Position.@3000FT with frame rates locked to 27.Straight and level frames range from 18 to 26.30 degree banking turn 18 to 26.@3000FT with frame rates set to Unlimited.Straight and level frames range from 27 to 46.30 degree banking turn 18 to 24.If I set the AC model to version D, Pilot and VC only, the frame rates go up by 5.Flight 2KSEA Seattle Tacoma to CYYJ Victoria International with same settings as before but I also have USA Roads installed.@3000 feet heading downtown, so that all the main buildings are in view. Frame rates locked to 27.Straight and level frames range from 18 to 26.30 degree banking turn 18 to 24.@3000Ft with frame rates set to Unlimited.Straight and level frame rates are 27 to 46.30 degree banking turn 18 to 24.So, despite one flight using lots of photo textures and the other lots of autogen, the overall results are much the same.I reran the KSEA tests with the ** Lancaster, The MAAM DC-3/C-47 and The MAAM B-25 Briefing Time (full interior version)(Had an Air-Miss with an MD80 on this one). All ran better than the JF Lancaster, but if you look at the cockpits, the JF Lancaster uses more polygons than any of the above, and thats where your frame rate goes. Compared to the ** Lancaster the VC is way better, but I don't think the 2d panel is as good. The Flight model seems better as does the sound.I still have issues with the Mosquito, and have forwarded my thoughts to Just Flight, they replied and said that they were looking into it.If you look at the .air file, I think it is a CFS3 port:(.For the ultimate reference book on Lancasters, The Lancaster Manual by Greenhill books is THE book to have. Armed with this you could refill and bleed the hydraulic fluid in the main legs on a Lanc in no time at all!regards,David.

Hi all,Just wrote to Simon at Just Flight and he replied that the patch has taken the developers a little longer than expected to get right, but it is on the way shortly. Hold your nerve.....Mark.

Don't worry, JF will sort it out, they're very good. My new rig is on for Friday delivery so hopefully by the w/end I'll be playing FS on that. I did buy the Lanc, down at the Duxford airshow along with a couple of Aerosoft birds, the Beech 18 and the Cheyenne.
