August 11, 200619 yr Question. Is anyone running the demo on XP that had SP2 installed seperate of the original XP install? In other words, your copy of XP was not orignally SP2.I have tried numerous times to install with no success. The installer goes all the way to the end and finishes with 'wizard was interrupted before the demo could be completely installed'. I see all the pictures and everything. The stop gives no indication what-so-ever what the problem is. I did have to do the windows update thing and get SP2 installed though. Never worried about it before because this was basically my FS Only machine. My system is now totally up to date with all service packs etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My concern is that this problem will presist when I purchase the full version upon release. I would like to try and resolve the issue on them demo as it appears that most folks are having no issue. I've seen in another thread one other person with the same exact issue. He also indicated that he had to install SP2.Dave________________________________________AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego @ 2.6MhzNForce4-A939 mobo 1G FSB2x1G Cosair XMS Ram on dual channelsSapphire Radeon X1900XT Video Card @ XTX23" Apple Cinema Display @ 1920X1200Soundblaster Live24Saitek Cyborg EVO TrackIR4

August 11, 200619 yr Got the original from 3dgamers. I downloaded from there again and got the same issue. I downloaded from MS today and will try that tonight but I'm not thinking that that's the problem. Hope it is.Dave________________________________________AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego @ 2.6MhzNForce4-A939 mobo 1G FSB2x1G Cosair XMS Ram on dual channelsSapphire Radeon X1900XT Video Card @ XTX23" Apple Cinema Display @ 1920X1200Soundblaster Live24Saitek Cyborg EVO TrackIR4
August 11, 200619 yr I've now tried packages from 2 seperate locations and still no go. What is frustrating is the installer does not indicate what the issue is. Any ideas?Dave________________________________________AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego @ 2.6MhzNForce4-A939 mobo 1G FSB2x1G Cosair XMS Ram on dual channelsSapphire Radeon X1900XT Video Card @ XTX23" Apple Cinema Display @ 1920X1200Soundblaster Live24Saitek Cyborg EVO TrackIR4
August 12, 200619 yr >I have tried numerous times to install with no success. The>installer goes all the way to the end and finishes with >'wizard was interrupted before the demo could be completely>installed'...Hi Dave,I get the same message from the installer and cannot install it :-(I disabled all tasks running in the background (definitely) but still no go. I have an original version of XP patched with SP2.Help is appreciated...Greetings from Germany,Michael
August 12, 200619 yr Did the installer leave anything in the: "[Drive]:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator X" directory? If so look for an installer log in that dir, that should give you a place to start. There could also be an installer log in the various "temp" directories in XP. If you can't find an installer log what about the XP Event logs do they tell you anything?Let us know what you find.-Thad
August 12, 200619 yr It doesn't leave the directories. The XP event viewer just shows that the installer failed. No detail.
August 12, 200619 yr Make sure you have directx 9.0C installed. The first time i installed fsx, it seemed to have problems with directx, so i downloaded it from MS. Then i installed it again and it's been working pretty well ever since :)
August 12, 200619 yr Okay lets generate one then.1) Place the fsxprereleasedemo.exe in the root folder DRIVE:fsxprereleasedemo.exe1) Rename the fsxprereleasedemo.exe to fsxprereleasedemo.zip2) You can now extract the files from that zip directory using the Windows Explorer zip extraction wizard.3) You should now have an uncompressed folder on your root DRIVE:fsxprereleasedemo4) Click Windows Start then the Run option (bottom right)5) Copy or type exactly the following into the "Open" box (make sure you substitute the DRIVE with your drive letter i.e. C)"DRIVE:fsxprereleasedemosetup.exe" /v"/l*v DRIVE:fsxinstall.log"This will generate an fsx installer log file on your root drive. When you get that done we can try to troubleshoot from there-Thad
August 12, 200619 yr Well, It creates quite a log. Doesn't appear to report any issue till the very end. August 12, 200619 yr Not that it helps much, but I get the same things.. somehow good to see I'm not alone. I'm currently stumped. It just quits, no reason, message, log or anything.I have the same trying to install FarCry, actually. I took that for a one-off, but apparently something is wrong.
August 12, 200619 yr I had the same problem - I also updated to SP2 from XP Home SP1 using the windows update feature.I noticed that this version of the SP2 install was only about 60mb, compared with another version that you can download from MS which is 266mb.I took off the SP2 update (control panel -> add/remove programs -> tick the 'show updates' box at the top of the form) and used the larger SP2 install.Ater that, FSX installed fine. Here's a link to the SP2 update that works: (Well, it worked for me.)http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=enHope this helps.Paul
August 12, 200619 yr dpc,Alright good work! Could you please, compress (ie Zip) the log file and send it to the following email address: [email protected]'ll take a look and see if I can spot anything specific that we might be able to troubleshoot/solve.-Thad
August 13, 200619 yr Hi Thad,I also sent you a copy of my fsxinstall.log (I hope that is o.k.). The Installation quits with the same message from the installer. Many thanks in advance for your kind help :-)Michael
August 13, 200619 yr Thad-Thanks for your help on this. I've sent the file to you. Just as on a side note, I have installed SP2 and reinstalled the larger file suggested by Moog in this thread. I still have the same issue.Dave________________________________________AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego @ 2.6MhzNForce4-A939 mobo 1G FSB2x1G Cosair XMS Ram on dual channelsSapphire Radeon X1900XT Video Card @ XTX23" Apple Cinema Display @ 1920X1200Soundblaster Live24Saitek Cyborg EVO TrackIR4
