Saving Flight Plans

In the Garmin there's an option that asks if you want to save a flight plan. I've noticed...as I'm just learning the Garmin...after I make a plan and put in my final waypoint an airport and click the enter button twice...the plan seems to save itself automatically and I can bring it up again for another flight. So what is the option to save a flight plan for...why would I need it seeing they seem to save themselves?

 

Update: I was wrong...I do have to save a plan for it to show up again. I thought I noticed a couple plans showing up that I didn't save but I must have and didn't realize it.
