July 9, 200619 yr In a response to my post about IFC Denver you mentioned using the Saitek X-45 in FS using the internal FS assignments instead of the Saitek software. My question is are you able to get the trim wheels to work that way?If so I would be very tempted to get a X-52. I could pull out & dust off my old X-45 but I do like the rudder control of the X-52 better... closer to what I'm used to.BTW... as I suspected the unit I first used at IFC had been abused. I used 3 more X-52 units the 2nd day and they weren't at all loose.
July 9, 200619 yr Tom,I use one the hat switches on the joystick for a good replication of electric trim. I like electric trim! As to rudder, I don't like twist grips or rocker switches, such as used in the X-45. I'm pedals only.
July 10, 200619 yr "I use one the hat switches on the joystick for a good replication of electric trim. I like electric trim!"That sounds like a good compromise. :)It is a shame that those fancy trim knobs on both the X-45 & X-52 can't be used as such."As to rudder, I don't like twist grips or rocker switches, such as used in the X-45. I'm pedals only.":-lol I use pedals when I'm in a "real sim" such as the Level D full motion guys at the UAL training center or even the little F-4 job they had outside the IFC last week but at home I like to put up my tired old feet while I fly. ;)The rocker on the back side of the throttle unit of the X-45 never did it for me. I like a twist grip. Saitek makes some good stuff. I still have a Cyborg EVO hooked to this system but my current weapon of choice is a Logitech Freedom 2.4 Cordless. Very nice to be able to just put it up on the shelf when I'm done with it without worrying about cords.I may still consider the X-52 but if I could use the trim wheels I'd stop considering and go buy the thing right quick. Thanks again for the info! :)
July 10, 200619 yr Author TomI use the trim knobs on my X45 for both elevator trim & to feather props in GA aircraft. Setup the joystick controller assignments in FS9 and they will show up as rotary 1 & rotary 2. You will have to adjust their sensitivites also under the sensitivites area in FS9.I like this setup myself.Jim
