February 21, 200620 yr This is just a question, probably can't be answered, but it's worth a try. With rumors circulating that the Ageia Physics card coming out next month, is the flight sim team working on supporting this card? Possibly with the new DX10 supported version? I think that adding a dedicated physics card would help dramatically in an application such as flight simulator. Even if not used to offload EVERY physics calculation, it would still help a lot. That would bring a lot more fluid animation, more realistic movement, flight dynamics, not to mention better framerates. You'd have the moving tree's, grass, and more affected by the wind; realistic turbulance; waves... The list can go on.I definitely plan on buying one of these cards for a new system, as several new games are taking advantage of it. It has the hardware manufacturers support (BFG, Asus, among others), just need more games! :)Any unofficial word on it? ;) You can be vague and give us a hint... "Can't say yes or no..." ;)

February 21, 200620 yr Great, i have a second 2,6 Ghz core (no, I didn't buy the FX-60. I overclock) sleeping its a#$e off when I play FS. I much rather you people find something for it to do, other than heat generation, than add support for an exotic chip that will probably end up at a tiny percentage of your buyers' computers.Regards,
February 21, 200620 yr They said the same thing about the Voodoo 1 when it was released. I believe that in a couple years, PPU's will be a common part of a board (integrated into motherboard, video card, or standalone). Some disagree, but with the benefits of it, why not?! Some say it will never be integrated? Why not? Hard drive controllers, sound cards, NIC's, USB, 3D Accelerators, etc., all started out as an addon card. Heck, when I was fist running FS a long time ago, I had an addon hard drive controller running my 20MB hard drive. Nothing on the MB to support it.I understand not supporting it at this time, no problem. The next version should ship with it, if it is a successful technology. Offloading the physics to a processor that is designed to do physics and nothing else is a good idea to me! Dual core CPU's do need to be taken advantage of (as well as the upcoming quad core, maybe;) ), since they are here and now. Thanks for the answer to my question! :D
February 21, 200620 yr Just so you know, we looked at the capabilities of the processor awhile back. It's general purpose processor that is great for games that feature collisions and explosions but doesn't really offer much that would help FS (at least right now). I'm sure if it gets traction in the marketplace we'll take another look.
February 21, 200620 yr There is absolutely no point in this hardware at all in the times when we have dual (and more cores) avaliable. It would be a waste of time and resources to program (and for end user) buy this card, when absolutely the same can be achieved running physics engine on 2nd core in most of cases with more efficiency.BTW I use the same engine which this card uses every day in its software flavor, running simulation engine for the project I cannot talk about.I also have another engine which runs on 2nd core. The card can speed up rigid body simulations, and as tdragger said - no use in FS.
May 26, 200620 yr Author I disagree... It can render real time flowing hair, fabrics, fluid motion (no more pre-animated water)...Sorry but modelling physics will make a paradigm shift happen in games and simulators. Dean MountfordUltimate VFR
