August 12, 20196 yr I've looked through the checklists and performance tables - googled like crazy. I can't seem to find a landing speed reference of any kind. Or even better a guide for pattern power/RPM and speeds. How is everyone landing this plane?
August 12, 20196 yr Normal landing Vapp 95kts (idle at 50ft) Short field landing Vapp 87kts (idle st 50ft). It's difficult to provide a guide since there are simply a lot of speed/rpm/mp/gear/flap combinations possible in a pattern for low and slow planes like the Chieftain. August 13, 20196 yr Author Thanks! The documentation for this plane was really fantastic, very detailed. 95 and 87 gives me a baseline to work from. I think I've been around 95 for my first few trial runs. In reading some RW talk groups they talk about going faster with less flaps into major airports so they don't conflict with the faster traffic. This plane has moved up into my favorites list.(and I just bought it) Thanks again Edited August 13, 20196 yr by tdumontelle add comment
August 14, 20196 yr The problem with the sequencing isn't he final approach (a low weight A320 will has a ref speed of only 110kts) but the intermediate approach if ATC wants you to keep e.g. 200 or 220kts which you can't do in the Chieftain. On the other hand keeping the commonly used 160kts to a 4NM final is way easier in a Chieftain than in a 767 😉
August 24, 20196 yr Author Just a follow up couple questions for this great aircraft. Setting it up with FSCaptain. For normal passenger operations, would there be a co-pilot or just a single crew? Would it be the same for cargo operations (is it used for cargo?). The speed charts offer a variety of power options...what would airlines generally use? Assuming relatively short range - 85% and full power? 55% and best economy? 85% and best economy? Just curious.
