September 4, 200619 yr Im having problems finding the source of some irritating clicks while Im in FS2004. The only way I can describe it is it sounds not unlike mouse clicks, every 6 to 10 seconds roughly but not consistently, more random. Even if I turn off the sound by pressing "Q" the clicks remain.Any help would be greatly appreciated.CheersPeteWindows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)2048 Megabytes Installed MemoryRADEON 9800 PRO (Omega 3.8.273)

September 4, 200619 yr "Control Panel > Sounds > Sounds Tab > Program events > Windows Explorer > Start Navigation. September 4, 200619 yr Sounds Tab > Program events > Windows Explorer > Start NavigationNot having much luck finding any options in control panel that have any of the above names in the sounds section of control panel? Can you suggest another way of accessing the above?http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
September 4, 200619 yr Author 1. Go to your Windows START menu. 2. Select the Settings option. 3. Select the Control Panel. 4. In the Control Panel window, double click the Sounds and Multimedia option. 5. Use the scroll bar to go about two-thirds of the way down the Sound Events list until you come to the Start Navigation setting. Click on the Start Navigation setting to highlight it. 6. With the Start Navigation setting highlighted, move the mouse cursor to the Name list and click on the (None) setting, which should be at the very top of the list. 7. Click the OK button to finalize your new setting.
September 4, 200619 yr Ok got it, well after all that I see I have no sound scheme enabled at all, but the option for start Navigation has already been set to none :(Thankyou for all the trouble you have gone to with the screen shot etc. I hope to have the opputunity to try and help you out also some day.CheersPete http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
September 4, 200619 yr Author NO problem Pete, sorry that was not it. Since it sounded like a mouse click, I was thinking you might be using a third party product like FSWidets Electronic Flight Bag. Since these addons are just web browsers inside FS2004, they use the same Internet Explorer DLL's and can invoke the start navigation sound when a page is requested. Have you added any new addons recently?Best Regards,Rich
September 4, 200619 yr Actually Rich, I do have FSWidets Electronic Flight Bag and just recently applied the latest update. I havent used it in FS2004 since the update tho? I have been suspicious of my recently installed Reality gauges but cant find a link anywhere that might point to those being the cause. Will pusue all this further t/m, I have 2.53am here (Australia) (yawn)Thanks again for all the helpPete :)http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
September 4, 200619 yr Author <>Ahh. Based on your original description, I presume this click sounds like the XP default navigation sound. I don't have this EFB, but I suspect its really just the Internet Explorer DLL on steroids. It could be that when EFB loads the IE DLL, your theme settings from control panel are ignored... so you get the XP default sounds for IE. If EFB has has a map function, it will always be updating and generating a "start navigation" event every few seconds. There is an easy way to find out...1. Find the file "Windows XP Start.wav" on your computer. For me its in C:WindowsMediaWindows XP Start.wav".2. Click on it to play the file (or play it using Media player, etc.). Is this the sound you are hearing? If so, proceed to step 3. If not you could search on other *.wav files and look for a matching sound.3. Temporarily rename the "Windows XP Start.wav" to "You cant find me.wav" (or something else) :-)4. See if the sound is stops in FS2004.You could also disable EFB I suppose, but I'm not sure how easy that is.Best Regards,Rich
September 12, 200619 yr Hello Fellow FlyersI am working on trying to find out what causes these clicks and also crakels. I have found out so far that it is not your computers causing this problem. After working on this for the past 4 months I have found that it has to do with the Panel CFG files as far as the the throttle crackling sounds that take away from the realizm. It is the panel cfg causing the noises. If you have a lot of gauges in your panel this causes this problem. If you remove the panel cfg completly from the panel folder you will of course have no panel, but guess what? The sound is pure and clean and all clicks and crackles are gone. As far as a click in the sound, it is more than likely that it is in the sound wave file itself, as I found this problem with my sound studio and I had to re edit the sound wave file, because at the end of the file had a click in it, right from the sound studio player. I hope that someone with the knowledge of panel cfgs can come up with some kind of .dll filter to clear up the the engine sound crackels caused by the panel cfg. I hope this helps you understand what is causing the problems ans promote a cure for fs9 as I am not ready for Flightsim X as it runs way to slow for a 32bit computer, that is a whole new can of worms to deal with now.:)
