Dell/FSX

Featured Replies

Hi,For those using a Dell for FS, I found a neat little program that will elminate all the programs running in the background:http://www.yorkspace.com/pc-de-crapifierWith PC tweaks regarding FSX on the horizon, I thought the Dell owners can get a head start on tweaking their sytem.I'm not sure how much performance gain there will be, but it can't hurt and can only improve performance.BRG,Jon

That's been my one complaint on my new Dell and it's a huge complaint indeed. I've spent more time in the past six weeks tracking down what all that crap is and eliminating it as best as possible than I've spent on anything else and still new stuff keeps popping up. Out of the box on the first boot all this stuff was gobbling up over 500 megs out of 2 GB. of memory. Mcaphee alone must have had at least 8 processes running on every start up. To impose that stuff on a neophyte computer user is a crime IMO but hey, this virtual world is often compared to the wild wild west.I think I've dealt with most of it now but I'll look into the de-crapifier if only to see what else is still on there.Microsoft deserves more than it's share of blame too, I wonder how many people get p-----d off every time they see that MS Messenger thingee and don't know how to get rid of it. And then there's the irony of these holier than thou companies "helping" us rid of Spam and the like when those same companies indulge in spamming like no other.FSAutoStart, available on this forum, is a Godsend IMO. On my older low resource machine FSAutostart would give me back over 35% of my already meager memory.

When i received my xps system, the first day i blew away the dell install and reinstalled my own OS with none of their junk. Just the drivers (minus the video driver)from dell were installed and thats it. I recommend you do the same if you can.
