October 13, 200619 yr Picked up FSX at lunch today from Walmart. Not the "Pro" release or whatever it's called, but the "standard" release. Guess I'm more an arcade flyer than a "glass cockpit, heavy jockey". Anyway, installed on a Apple iMac (gasp!) Core 2 Duo 2.16. 1.5 Gb memory and an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256mb Vram, running XP on bootcamp.I have some AA issues due to the video card. But, I slammed the sliders up a good bit because I like eye candy. Flew around Manhattan with 9-10 frames. Heck, it's not bad. Ton smoother than older versions under 10fps. Didn't have the density of city buildings I like, so I'm about to tweak some more (that'll hurt!)But, from a casual user, on a system not made for MSFS (even though it's brand spankin' new), I say job well done. I'll play some more, but I like it. I like it alot.
October 13, 200619 yr Where are you located? Wal-Mart has a "street date" restriction on the game, and it's shut out of all their POS computers (read: Cash registers), giving a notice of "Sale Not Allowed". This is controlled through the primary servers in Bentonville, Arkansas, which are connected to the local stores' server, which in turn controls the cash register system. Once an SKU is restricted, no one at store level can override it. I'm not too proud of my time as a junk schlepper for Wal-Mart, but I did pick up a thing or two about supply chain and inventory control. If Wal-Mart has been given the clear to sell it, then I may check out our 24 hour shop nearby. Could you share how the checkout process went? Did the cashier simply scan the product like anything else, total the sale, and take your payment, or was there anything else involved? Thanks! October 13, 200619 yr I'm in the Raleigh Durham area of NC.It did not ring up as the SKU was not recognized on the register. But it did not show "Sale Not Allowed" either. So, the folks in electronics used the SKU for Flight Simulator 2004 @ $29.88. Close enough I guess.Anyway, they had about 6 copies up on the rack. I don't think they will sell the "Pro" version though, just the regular.
