high resolution 3d scenery question

Featured Replies

I hope this is the right forum to ask this if not please let me know where would be better and/or the moderator can move my question .. thanks.

I am trying to find high resolution 3d scenery with the real buildings, trees etc (photoreal) comparable to the google earth flight simulator, for microsoft flight simulator X or x-plane (or any other full function flight simulator).

I've tried ortho4xp at zoomlevel 19 (maximum), and the MegaSceneryEarth free sample for Delaware, and neither come close to google earth flight simulator. When you fly low in an ultra light they look like you are looking at a 2d drawing on the ground of 3d objects looked at from above (ie all you see is the top of a roof when you should see the sides of the buildings ) while google earth flight simulator shows real 3d houses and trees etc and at much higher resolution.

Are there any other products I could look at?

(I know Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 should be pretty good and I will look at that when it comes out - are there any alpha or beta versions available to preview?)

I suspect part of the problem is limitations in how x-plane and mfsx show scenery, is that right?
And I have an inexpensive computer so I can't turn up the realism settings (x-plane crashes) if that would help.

Thanks

You might want to take a look at the products from here: https://www.francevfr.com/mailing/29_12_17_enews_EN.htm

It's worth bearing in mind that - being their sceneries are based on photorealistic terrain images which then have custom made 3D buildings placed on top of that - some of their stuff can really make even a very decent computer really struggle to display stuff as it is really pushing what FSX and P3D is capable of and it can easily cause an OOM crash with FSX, whereas the 64 Bit version in P3D won't crash the sim, but it certainly will make it work hard.

This is especially true for their Paris-Ile de France VFR scenery, which covers the entire region around the City of Paris, and includes pretty much every building there is and detailed versions of the 20 airports in the surrounding area including of course the three major airports which serve the city itself, but if your computer can handle it, you'll be hard pressed to find a more impressive scenery for FSX or P3D in terms of 3D building placement accuracy over a very large area.

Here is my little Bellanca Turbo Viking over that Ile De France scenery, passing above the 7th Arrondissement of Paris, with the Musée de l'Armée and the Air France Building at the Invalides visible just off my right wing, and the Trocadero, Eiffel Tower etc visible off my left wing. So if you like the most beautiful city in the world and want it in your sim, look no further.
