Cannot save my situation

I have loade the jet ranger at Manchester (uk) and switched everything off, for a cold start next time and with door open, went to outside view - locked spot and decided to save it.Went out of sim came back and it put me back in the 2D cockpit - which incidently does not fit the full view screen only if you use the window screen.Have tried this save in windows and full screen. Went to drop down menu and loaded my save - put me outside with rotors going and all switched off then the rotors slowly came to stop.I have saved many a situation in FS9 - but this is weird.Anyone able to run me through it - noob style for FSX, it will probably be something simple that I am doing - my screen sometimes goes black and wondering what happens - would have been better just to put a screen up and tell me whats happening.
