October 14, 200619 yr Read on for a quick solution to the 'install problem'If you are having the same kind of problems that many are experiencing trying to install FSX, I suspect that the head office of Microsoft's product testing department is probably 'where you want to fly today'. However, just in case you haven't tried it, if you get that 'rollback error' thing happening right at the end of the three-year wait for the FSX installation process to complete, look on the first disk for a file called 'WindowsInstaller-KB893803-x86' and run that, as it will probably solve the issue. Why Microsoft didn't flag up the fact that their own operating system was a potential problem and think to actually try and solve the issue, or perhaps even mention it, is beyond me. But it's not a good sign for Vista if this is the kind of product testing Microsoft think is adequate.Nevertheless, not wishing to appear totally negative about FSX, when you do eventually get it installed, you'll be pleased to know that it is actually worth the wait. The missions feature is obviously a welcome part, following the demise of adventure capability in more recent versions of FS and at last there is decent implemetation of thermal activity, meaning there is now a point to having a glider in the FS stable (it's only taken 25 years).Yes it is a frame-rate hogger, but ever was it so with the most recent versions of FS (except perhaps the old SubLogic one - that always ran fine on mine). In any case, as in previous versions, fixes and suggestions are usually forthcoming without too much delay, and in the meantime, turn off 'autogen' for a significant improvement. One suspects that much of the problems with the speed at which FSX runs are likely to be solved by Vista, as FSX is no doubt geared towards running ok on that system, as opposed to the outgoing XP, so that'll be even more fun and games in the future, no doubt.
