Multiplayer connection problems

Featured Replies

When FSX's multiplayer works, it's a great improvement over FS9's. However, I've noticed an increasingly annoying problem with it.. it's very flaky.Probably the most common problem is that when I change the Lobby (Free flight, Bush flying, etc) I get disconnected with an error message saying "You have been disconnected from GameSpy. You may have logged in on another computer.". Try it yourself - log in, then select Bush flying, then right after that select Helicopter ops, then right after that select Free flight. I just tried this twice in a row and disconnection was guaranteed somewhere down the road. It's as if FSX re-sends login data each time I change the lobby and at some point GameSpy's servers see my "previous" login at the same time with my "new" login and I get disconnected. This also happens quiet often when I disconnect from a session ("Leave session"). Instead of getting to the main lobby, I get the above error message and end up at the multiplayer login screen. Is anyone else experiencing these?

I've been experiencing the same problem. But it doesn't bother me. After a night of trying various servers, my conclusion is that FSX multiplayer is absolute rubbish. Let me explain;I've been flying online using IL2:Forgotten Battles for some years. I fly at least once per week as I'm a member of a virtual squadron. We rarely experience lag, certainly none since I've upgraded to a 2Mb cable connection.FSX, however, in every sesion I joined (a number from the UK where I am located) was completely warp-city. The VoIP was corrupted as well. Was it my connection that night? No, I checked by dropping out of FSX and into IL2 and all was fine. How can this be when I read reviews that it was great? Well all of the pre-release reviews that mentioned multiplayer were using it over a LAN, not the Internet. SO my conclusion is that ACEs or MS know didly about internet connectivity and the Russian company 1C:Maddox Games who wrote IL2, know an awful lot about it. Sad, I'm getting that FS2000 feeling all over again.

I've experienced far less warping than I did with FS9 so I can't say I'm having as much of a problem with position updates as you do - however I do agree that it's a very common occurance to hear garbled voice comms. It's not just a matter of someone having a bad microphone, either, as those cases are easy to recognize.I'm not sure how FSX's voice comms work exactly (P2P or client-host), but if it's the latter then it might simply be a case of the host asking too much of their computer and FSX being forced to cut corners somewhere. In which case it would be great to have documentation on what kind of processing power and bandwidth requirements the various host options require (the learning center does not appear to touch this subject) so that the hosts could better match their settings with their hardware. On a somewhat related note, has anyone figured out what the logic in listing servers according to the "Players" column is? When I click the "Players" heading I expect to be able to list the sessions either in the order of number of players currently connected (the most logical choice) or the maximum number of slots (not quite as useful but still somewhat logical). FSX follows neither of these, instead seemingly listing sessions at random. Here's an example:Sorted according to players once:1/207/201/12(1)12/22(2)1/10(2)4/122/10(9)3/10(3)1/82/8Sorted according to players twice (should be reversed order):2/22/32/3(1)2/3(2)5/62/48/10(2)2/82/8(1)6/12I fail to see the logic in either? :/

I have the same problem. I get logged in, everything is fine for 5 minutes. Then bingo right on que it disco's me giving the same error message you're getting. MS really screwed up on this interface.
