October 16, 200619 yr >Could this be a boon for XP users? Any comments ACES team?>>http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=35110>>BillForget asking, I've already asked on numerous occasions to see some kind of evidence that their claims that FSX will run better under Vista are true. So far, nothing. And significantly, nothing about whether they mean Vista/DX9 or Vista and DX10. As I said in a thread yesterday, if you have to spend a lot of money to upgrade to Vista, including hardware, it will be nice to have some benchmarks as to what those gains might be, or else it might be better to spend more money on the hardware upgrade for XP alone, putting the extra cost of the new OS to better use with better hardware under XP. But given that even those with top-end systems can't run FSX effectively even at relatively low settings under XP SP2, Vista had better be good! It's all speculation at this point and not worth worrying about until things stabilise. Months, not weeks. Most of us don't live in FS vacuum and the Operating System has got to do a whole lot more than just run flight sim effectively. I already know I will have to dual boot to get most of my studio software to continue to run.Allcott
October 16, 200619 yr AllcottI agree it's going to be some time.1: No DX-10, DX9.0L video cards will be ready for some time.2: As you say, cannot get answers in any event. I suppose we will just have to wait and see.I would suggest that graphics using the new DX's and vid cards would increase graphics performance in general, as prior updates to DX has.I get 23-24 FPS with FSX with all the settings set low. NY City shows me 1 building (Empire State?). I get 38-40 FPS with FS9 around busy airports with the sliders cranked up, not quit to max tho. Thats when using PMDG and LSD, make that Level-D.:)For FSX a new system is in order but I'm going to wait until some of the questions noted above have been answered. Besides, PMDG and Level-D will take some time to switch over to FSX, whats the rush?Buck
October 18, 200619 yr In any case, The Inquirer blew it down since; http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=35140For a moment, I hoped 9.0L would bring DX10 capacity to existing DX9 cards. Doesn't seam it's going to happen any time soon or ever :-(Well, back to the the good ol' abacus!Hugo
October 18, 200619 yr Fact #1 - DX10 is vista only. DX9L is for vista so that it can support existing DX9 games. I have also heard that DX9L may be for Windows XP also so that you can run DX10 games like Crysis on WinXP in DX9 mode ONLY. This is still unsubstantiated as of now.Fact #2 - Nvidia is releasing the 8800 series DX10 cards next month, not in Q1 2007 like it says in the article. ATI/AMD is way behind as usual with their offering and their first DX10 cards won't be available until late Q1 or early Q2 as it stands now.The moral of this story:Never believe ANYTHING that theinquirer.net has to say about ANYTHING. They are peons. Period.
