Stutter and Low FPS at airport

Featured Replies

Hi captains, Just decided to move to P3D from FSX and just wonder a few things that maybe y’all can help.

I set my P3D on normal setting and yet FPS and stutter still there.

here is my spec

- 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H 2.20 – 4.10 GHz, 9 MB SmartCache
- 32GB DDR4 2666Mhz
- 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD
- Intel UHD Graphics 630, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB GDDR5
- 15.6-inch Full HD IPS LED Backlit, Refresh Rate 144Hz
- Windows 10 Home 64Bit

and since I’m struggling to put URL on this photo I’ll just type my setting

DISPLAY

Image and Texture

FXAA Off

AA 4xMSAA

Anisotropic 16x

1024x1024

Full Screen Setting

1920x1080x32

ORBX GLOBAL BASE

ORBX GLOBAL VECTOR

ORBX TREE HD

ORBX AUSTRALIA

TOMATO SHADE

REX 4 TEX

when leaving the airport and start climbing FPS can manage the constant 50-60 FPS.

I read post here before that some one put FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.1 and FPS limit at 60 to make a good autogen on terrain so I did.

but when I’m at the airport the FPS can be as low as 25-30 with super annoying stutter. and on VC I cant even talk about it.

I dint put Affinity mask when all post here mostly suggest to do it because I don't know what amount to put there. fyi my Hyperthreading is On idk if this info is necessary.

with this Covid all arround this is the only game that can make me calm at home since I am a workaholic. and also a problem for me I have OCD so a small problem with the game makes me angry all the time. (sometimes I just spend hours to edit AFCAD  most airport I have been in to just to make all the airlines park on the right terminal).

So My question :

1. Do I deserve this kind of performance on my laptop?low fps on airport and VC.

2. If yes, Is there anything for me to make it any better?

3.if No, is there something wrong on my setting? or should I do something to make it better?

Thank You so Much.

while I’m writing this, I’m flying From VHHH (taxi2gate) to WADD (Aerosoft X)

Airport gate 20 FPS

Take off 10-15 FPS

Climbing 20-30 FPS

Cruising 40-50 FPS

CPU 25 %

GPU 70%

3.81 GHZ

What version of P3D?

If I had your computer setup, I would make these adjustments:

1) Since you have HT on, I would set your affinity mask to 4085 to prevent competition on the same physical core between the two most 'time sensitive' P3D threads. I might try something different on v5 based on my own experiences (namely I think I'd try a mask of 1365 in v5).

2) I would try to lock at 30 fps for a consistent and smooth experience, and I would also try an entire flight with AND without vsync and triple buffering on.

3) I would reduce your Level of Detail radius to Medium.

4) I would turn dynamic reflections to low, or completely off to start.

5) I would turn special effects both to low.

6) I would make sure that in the shortcut for Prepar3D on your desktop you have selected to disable full screen optimizations (right click -> properties -> compatibility)

7) You mentioned two graphics cards, a built-in Intel and an Nv 1060. Make sure in P3D Display you're using your 1060 card. Not sure if/why both are showing.

YMMV, you will get many different opinions and each system is different, etc etc etc
