FSX textures in FS9??

Featured Replies

Is this possible at all?? Like the water, mesh terrain? Just wondering if anyones tried it out or if its even doable... would be curious to see how the framerates go if it could be done. I remember some guys had the FS2004 textures working in 2002...On a sidenote.. what does everyone do while FSX loadsI found in the time I click the the icon on the desktop to the time it loads the initial screen to select what you want to do, I can go from my computer room to the kitchen, grab a drink, come back (and play with the dog on the way)After I select what I want to do, while it loads I plug in my Ibanez guitar and jam out a few tunes... oh and sometimes I can finish my drink as well... All on a P4 3 ghz machine.. Ok I know I am behind on the CPU technology, but it isn't THAT slow!!! Or is it...

It would be easy to do - 1. Copy only the textures from sceneryworldtexture*.bmp with the same filenames as those in sceneryworldtexture*.bmp to a temporary directory2. Resize all the 1024x1024 .bmp's to 256x256 - use a nice resample method like Bicubic3. Apply about 10-15% sharpen filter to each texture (else they will appear very fuzzy in FS9)4. Backup your old FS9 textures5. Copy the resized .bmps to sceneryworldtextureYou will now have FSX 5m textures inside FS9NOTE: some of the texture filenames have changed in FSX, and without investigating it fully, you may get some mismatching calls from the FS9 landclass. Not 100% sure, but as I said, backup first.Lastly, if you are expecting to see details like nice suburban roads with curbs and driveways as sharp as FSX, you won't :) Logic tells us that reducing something to 25% of it original size will lose a LOT of detail, so don't expect miracles :)
