Q RE: multiplayer ports & also new FSX freeware aircraft.

Featured Replies

Hi guys2 quick Q'sFirstly, mainly people in the UK with ADSL may be able to answer this... do you have to forward any ports in your modem/router like fs2004 (I.E the 24567+24569) range.or becuase it goes through gamespy, is no port forwaring required now?I would like to know before I try online play so my first expeirence in FSX isnt ruined by being disconnected all the time etc. Also, are there any completetly new free-ware aircraft available for FSX yet with VC? because I have imported some of my fs2004 planes but many of them have missing guages etc.I've also search the library here at trusty avsim and also flightsim.com but there dont seem to be any A/C for FSX up yet?Or even if someone has a link to nice re-paints of the 737 or A321 :)Thanks-tibbz

ok i have been trying to play multiplayeri keep getting disconnected everytime i try to join a session, and it then disconnects me from gamespy completly.I looked on the "network options" screen, and see that the default ports are 6112 - 6122.I go ahead an open/forward these ports in my router but i keep getting disconected.this is really starting to #### #### me off.im sick of having problems with fs online due to ADSL and ports.can someone please tell which ports they are forwarding (who uses adsl)thanks

If you've never, ever managed to connect to a FSX multiplayer server there might be something completely different wrong with your machine, BUT.. if you've ever managed to connect even once, you might simply be experiencing the same problems I am:Namely, simply changing lobbies, trying to connect to servers or disconnect from servers causes you to fly right back to the GameSpy login screen.Or then you seem to lose connection to servers while it's trying to load up the server's info / weather, without any particular reason. As far as I'm concerned, this is plain and simple the way FSX's multiplayer works (or as it happens, doesn't work). If you've managed to connect to a server once or twice there's nothing necessarely wrong with your hardware.

i used to fly online regularly with FSHost servers in fs2004 (after forwarding the neccessary ports)but so far with FSX, ive not been able to sucessfully connect to one session.I've quadruple-checked my port settings and i am forwarding 6112 to 6122 correctly, so I dont know why its not working.comon FSX! one of the main things i hoped would be fixed in this FSX would be easier multiplayer....... or at the very best still having to configure routers but with the connections being more stable.I cant connect at all ffs!! :// EDIT: I can connect to gamespy, see the list of sessions, then initiate the connection to an actual session, but it normally disconnects me when im at the screen to select where to spawn & enter my ATC details. If im quick enough to get past that screen it disconnects me during the load percantage bar.

Your problems sound a lot like mine, with the exception that I am able to actually connect to a server every once in a while.. Right now the ratio of failed connections vs. working connections is about 10 to 1.When I *am* able to get connected to a server, I very rarely have problems (if you cound out the occasional issue with echoing or garbled voice comms). The real problem is the lobby system.

I managed to connect to a few sessions last night and had un-interrupted, non-laggy gameplay.I enjoyed it and was pleased I could finally go multiplayer. However I tried connecting to another one or two and recieved the same problems as before (getting disconnected)strange :/

Alright, since you've now verified that you CAN connect to a server, all I can say is that this is the kind of performance I also experience with FSX's multiplayer.Getting through the GameSpy lobby phase is a very frustrating experience, but once you manage to get onto a good server it (usually) works very well.

thanks for easing my concerns.I think I may email MS about this ( i heard theres a a feedback email address for FSX) so they can fix some of these issues for a possible patch.-tibbz

I've seen a couple of repaints kicking about already. As long as people can get decent base textures to play around with, they should be forthcoming fairly quick. I've not give it a shot at repainting one yet, but if the layered Photoshop files of the plain white aircraft are available anywhere, repainting them can be done very quickly, and it isn't even that hard to do if you are okay with Photoshop, so it's my guess you'll no doubt see stacks of FSX repaints done in a week or two's time. With regard to new aircraft, G-Max is part of the SDK on the Deluxe edition, so those inclined to make their own aircraft are in the fortunate position of still being able to use the same software to knock stuff out too. So expect those to come along in fairly short order as well, although I can tell you that to produce a decent new model for FS in G-Max does take a good few hours work, and I'm going to be doing that very shortly in fact.Although it's interesting to note that some FS9 aircraft which I've imported into FSX have come in okay, but the control surfaces would not animate, this surprises me, as they usually animate by virtue of the names the particular part is given on the actual G-Max model, so it's a little puzzling to see them not moving as they should if the model was produced in G-Max, particularly as MS stated that aircraft models which complied with FS9 construction method constraints would be compatible with FSX.
