FSX Help Please

Featured Replies

I finally got my hands on FSX today, and despite all of the negative comments I have heard, I am really enjoying this new offering from MS. However, I am having a few problems, and was hoping that some of you might be able to help out a little. 1) Can the reactive movement in the virtual cockpits be turned off, or somehow locked? I actually like it because it helps me to learn how not to manuever like a fighter pilot, but my son is having a hard time with it. Is there anyway it can be locked in the fsx.cfg, or perhaps in a menu option I missed?2) My system seems to run FSX pretty good (24-29 FPS average near the big cities), but my cooling fan is running like crazy. I know this might sound stupid to the computer experts out there, but would it be okay if I used a regular fan to help keep my system cool? I was thinking about pointing my personal desktop fan towards my cpu to help out a little. Try not to hammer me to much for this question, I'm not a computer genious.3) Is anyone else having a problem re-starting the ultra-light trike after you shut it down? I shut down after a flight to refuel, and it wouldn't start up again. I had to reset the flight to get it going again, and after stopping another time, it wouldn't restart.4) When I bought FSX this morning I saw a users guide for sale for $14.00 at Circuit City. I couldn't flip through the pages because it was in plastic wrap. Has anyone seen this guide? Is it worth buying? Thanks in advance for any help

Hello Brian,I am not an expert on any of this, so please just take it in the spirit in which it is offered.1. You can modify the momentum effect (Dynamic Head Movement) to your taste. If you have the Pro (sorry, I mean Deluxe) version, the Camera Configuration SDK has the information. Sorry, I haven't done this yet, so cannot provide better indications.2. I took the side of my box off and have an 18-inch fan pointed right at the insides. Keeps it, and me, really cool - 38 Centigrade right now for the HD and CPU. I live in the tropics so this is really helpful.3. Haven't had any problem restarting the ULM. In past versions of FS, an aircraft might not start if the mixture was not full in, even when the airplane had no mixture! I doubt if this is the problem, though. But, just hit Ctrl-E to start and see if that works.4. Haven't seen it but you may want to search the Forum, if it is not too slow. There may have been a couple of posts.I saw your posts on the 3rd page of the forum and didn't want it to get lost, so I hope that somebody more knowledgeable than me will now see it and help you.Best regards.Luis

Luis, Thank you very much for your help. I installed the SDK's and got it all figured out. For those of you who do not know how, you can disable the reactive movement in the virtual cockpits by editing the following lines in the fsx.cfg file:[DynamicHeadMovement]LonAccelOnHeadLon=0LonAccelOnHeadPitch=0RollAccelOnHeadLat=0YawAccelOnHeadLat=0RollAccelOnHeadRoll=0MaxHeadAngle=0MaxHeadOffset=0HeadMoveTimeConstant=0 Every "0" used to have a long number there until I changed it. Not only do I prefer not having my head bounce all over, but it has even added a couple of frame rates. Thanks for the rest of your help as well. My computer is running much cooler now, which is also adding a few FPS.Brian

CORRECTION I guess that you don't have to edit the fsx.cfg at all. I found it much easier to just edit the cameras.cfg. Under Camera Definition .002, just change the momentum affect from true to false.

Just a thought about the ultralite problem: Could the battery have run out while it was sitting there? A lot of planes in FS9 won't start if the battery's dead. (Not sure if the Ultralite has a master switch to shut off the power.)"Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."
