Generally speaking, I'm pretty happy with FSX, but there are some issues with it as we all know, the rocket-powered Airbus, frame rates, etc. And here's another:Hopefully you'll be able to see the picture attached to this post. It's a screen grab of my DC-3 flying over EGCC (Manchester UK) at about 9000 feet. Note that I have tweeked the contrast and brightness to improve clarity. Below, through the clouds, you can see the airport which has some 'interesting' ATC going on to say the least. For those of you not familiar with Manchester Airport, it has two parallel runways, 24R/6L and 24L/6R, they are staggered and often one is used for departures, the other for arrivals, usually runways 24, since the prevailing wind is from the west on most days. Such was the case when the screen grab was taken (real world weather download), with the wind gusting up to 18 knots and generally hovering around 14 knots from about 200 degrees. So, Runway 24 the obvious choice but with a fairly sharp crosswind component. ATIS information Bravo agreed and said: departures from 24R, landing and departing from 24L. It's at this point that the ATC calls grabbed my attention, something was not right. In the picture, aircraft A is at 24R ready to go, but holding for traffic. Aircraft B however, has landed on 6L and was probably putting the anchors on pretty hard with an 18 knot tailwind helping it along the runway. Meanwhile, aircraft C has come in on 24L, the opposite direction to aircraft B and its passengers are probably wondering what the #### is going on on 24R, and glad they came in on 24L. Notwithstanding the fact that these aircraft would have passed one another at about 200 miles per hour while there was a fairly tricky crosswind component. The aircraft in the middle of the runways is probably too scared to move from its position as it is buffeted by wake turbulence from two different directions. This is on 100 percent commercial traffic settings in FS, so you have to remember that there were lots of go arounds and lines of aircraft coming too, and since I live about 5 or 6 miles from this airport in real life, and fly from there occasionally, I can only hope this kind of thing never happens in the real world!Again, most serious simmers end up tweeking the default aircraft routes to match the real world or stick something like Ultimate or FS Traffic on, but casual simmers who've bought FSX and use it as it comes will wonder why we're all so impressed with FS I imagine.http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j105/Ala...ry/wierdATC.gif
