October 22, 200619 yr Need your imput folks! Again, this is not a "gripe" about activations.I have had to activate my copy of FS10 3 times now. The first time was expected, the second time I though was a one off, and the third time (an hour ago) got me to thinking... and that led me to this post.I "think" the second and third activation request were due to "driver" updates I did. The first was the nVidia Forceware 3 driver set, and the second was the AMD 64 'Cool and Quiet' driver. So, can anyone confirm this. In other words, have you had to activate FS10 more than once on the same machine without making any hardware changes? Or, have I discovered a new Activation problem... I hope not! :)
October 22, 200619 yr THEORY---Microsoft Activation in general looks at the users hardware prior to activation and during. It looks at Processor, Memory Harddrive and MotherBoard information and records this information-- this keeps people from just doing a "disk" copy after the product is activated. If the processor and motherboard changes after the product is activated,-- OR if the OS THINKS there has been a processor change the product asks you to "re-activate."The Microsoft Activation Process in FSX is having an error when it attempts to gather processor information from certain AMD x64 processors or AMD x64 processors and certain MotherboardsDISCLAIMER--ONCE AGAIN--- THIS IS JUST A THEORY--FROM Experience... Micorosoft will likely let you re-activate the software if you need to again-- They are just trying to prevent piracy. And, that is understandable. Developers spend time an money to provide us products, and the theives of the world have made all this activation crap required. I have, from time to time needed to re-activate products, and needed to do so over the phone after "exceeding" the limits... After explaining the "why" and backgrounds of the situation, Microsoft has provided me with the activation codes. I am sure they will do the same in this case
October 22, 200619 yr Author >THEORY---That was a great Theory but it helps me not! Did you read my original post. I am looking for folks who HAVE had a similiar experience to the one I discribe. If enough people respond, I may be able to convince MS to look into the matter.
October 22, 200619 yr Not happened here. I have changed graphic card drivers five times since FSX was installed, changed sound card drivers twice, installed new peripheral hardware unrelated to FSX and added new software for a TomTom GPS system. No reactivation necessary. I have also completed a repair install of FSX, just to see if it prompts a reactivation. It didn't.Sounds like you have a particular problem. Allcott

Is you hardware similiar to mine, i.e. AMD 64 processor etc.?
