October 22, 200619 yr I've got a question I've also been having with earlier versions of FS: why are so many popup-views (radiostack etc.) different from the VC itself? It ruins the idea you are really flying a plane for me. Today I few the Baron 58 with the G1000. When you (for instance) open the panel with the lightswitches and so on, it's completely totally different than the one you see in the VC! And this is true for other windows too. And the VC doesn't even have a Autopilot! You are forced to use the AP-window! Why is that? It ruins the 'as real as it gets' idea! This also goes for various add-on planes, btw.Is it so hard to make the popups (or whatever you call them) the same as the ones you see in the VC...? I really don't understand why they have to be different... Pity.I'd really like to not use any popup windows at all and just zoom in and pan around etc. but because some functions are only accesible on popups, that's impossible. And also looking and zooming around isn't as easy as with (for instance) Active Camera (you have to hold space all the time or toggle with shift-O). (I've looked all over the Learning Center to find info about how to change views and save them but I can't find anything: anyones knows where I can get that info? But even with that info I'll never have those easy Ctrl-#-views and smooth transitions AC gave me, which made it look just as if you really looked around in the VC... Bummer...)
October 22, 200619 yr Have you tried pressing the 'A' key while in the VC? It cycles through close-up views of parts of the VC with switches, etc.
October 22, 200619 yr Yes, I did ;) but I'd like to have more/other views. Also you have to cycle through them in order to get to the one you want. And besides that: the AP isn't on the panel so... I have to use a pop-window or that one. ;)Anyway, I've just installed the SDK just to be able to read the document about te views. Man, that looks complicated... I wonder if I can get things done the way I want them (sort of). I guess you have to reload the plane everytime in order to check out the changes?BTW I read something about smooth transitions between views: are these possible too for the VC-A-views? I already thought about putting the most important VC-zoomed-in-views under F9-F12 and maybe I'll even move some VC-views under the S-key so that pressing S switched between various VC-views. But I don't know it that's possible. I guess I'll have to experiment for a few hours... ;)
October 22, 200619 yr Man, this is way too complicated for a casual user... I wanted to change the initial zoom for the VC of the Ultralight only... but the aircraft.cfg doesn't have an entry for that. So I think (???) I have to copy the standard VC info from the CAMERAS.CFG to the Ultralight's AIRCRAFT.CFG...? Or not...? And do I have to change the GUID manually then...?!? And I also want to pan down a little by default: there should be an XYZ entry for that but that's missing completely... so I do not know where to start. I also don't get the smooth transitionoption... Ah, well, never mind... I'll forget about it all because I'm getting way too frustrated here. :( Hopefully someone who is clever enough will come up with a utility to enables normal people like me to make custom views (on the fly, hopefully). And I wouldn't mind paying for that too. Bummer...

Bummer... Sorry for the frustration. I agree it's complicated. Our goal was to provide some new functionality that worked for most people and then have a smart developer step in and provide a utility for more flexibility. You are likely ahead of the curve it terms of what you're looking for.
October 22, 200619 yr That's okay. I'm feeling better already. :) I'll indeed wait for that smart dev. But er... I also have to say (and admit) that during my last flight with the G1000-equipped Baron (see the topis about the G1000 for more rants: it's the main reason for me feeling better in the meantime! ;)) I began to get quit used to the new mouse look (using the spacebar). Somehow looking around manually instead of using preset views is maybe even more realistic... Yeah, yeah, yeah, some things just take some time to get used too... ;) I even entered all radiofreqs (given by ATC) manually so I'm getting quit handy at moving around with the mouse in FS X. ;) Still, if a dev is reading this: feel free to make that awesome view-for-n00bs-tool! ;)P.S. About the radiofreqs and ATC: I love the new ATC-window with the history! Very nice indeed! It makes entering the freqs a lot easier (my short term memory isn't as good as it once was... ;)) I already said that somewhere else but some things can't be said enough. ;)P.S. 2 I see I use a lot of smileys. Hope no one minds me doing so. ;)
October 22, 200619 yr P.S. I can't edit the post anymore (weird) but I suddenly realised that 'rant' isn't exactly a positive word (English isn't my native language...). So the line 'see the topic about the G1000 for more rants' should really be something like 'see the topic about the G1000 for more very positive stories!' ;)
October 22, 200619 yr Speaking of views, I don't see the value of the view which is of the right side of the plane under the wing. Maybe I am missing the point. Could someone explain that to me? I am sure it must have some use.Don
October 22, 200619 yr It's to get different views of the new world in FSX. Good for screenshots and videos too.

I am>sure it must have some use.And don't forget to also press the A key: you will get other views too! They are (quit often) different for each plane. Some look quit nice! But in the end I only use the VC view and the freely movable spot view. It's great to have so many options though.
October 23, 200619 yr "I'd really like to not use any popup windows at all and just zoom in and pan around etc. but because some functions are only accesible on popups, that's impossible. And also looking and zooming around isn't as easy as with (for instance) Active Camera (you have to hold space all the time or toggle with shift-O)."It's not impossible if you use Track IR4. You simply look down at the instrument/switch you need to look at, or change, then lean in closer to the monitor - which is the equiv. of a zoom - and then press the "pause" (centre mouse wheel - configurable to any key/button), and voila! The screen pauses in the exact position your head/eyeballs would be in real life and you're then able to click or move whatever it is you want to move. Most flyers who use Track IR will not fly without it. I know it's another addon to buy, but it sure beats what you're trying to do with those blasted 2D pop-ups an' 2D windows that cover 3/4 of the field of view. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
