Any tweaks for bloom?

Featured Replies

I like the bloom effect, but I think it's a bit overdone. I noticed a sun effects cfg file. Does anyone know how to tweak it? Or alternatively, how to get a softer transition (it seems too abrupt and hard edged) between the sun and the sky when bloom is off.

Just one in case you have not read it. Its turning it off nobody has come up with anything else.

I've attempted to tweak the bloom.fx file, but had some issues doing so.FSXShadersHSDLmiscbloom.fx (the shaders directory may be misnamed here, but it's something like that)The .fx file is just a text configuration file, so you can open it in Notepad and take a look. I adjusted the texture samples figure (set at 16) and ended up with complete garbage on the screen - I had garbage in the aircraft preview window when loading a flight, and then the same garbage in the actual flight screens after everything loaded. The sim was responsive, so I CTRL-C'ed out and reset things to normal.Perhaps someone with more programming experience can horse around in the file to uncover the mysteries of the bloom effect, and tone things down for asthetic AND performance purposes!-Greg

I read a post by someone a couple weeks ago who said he dumbed down the bloom effect for performance purposes. And I just found it. JeanLuc mentions having rewritten the bloom shader but I don't believe he ever explains in detail how:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...e=search#355121Hopefully he can come visit this thread and tell us how to modify the shader ourselves.
