October 24, 200619 yr I like the new views and MouseLook. Is there a way, though, to assign shift-O to the middle mouse button, so that it works like ActiveCamera?
October 24, 200619 yr I believe it is, although I haven't tested this beyond making sure that it works in the controller setup screen.Run FSX and go to Settings -> Controls -> Buttons / KeysChoose "Mouse Look" from the Controller Type dropdown menuScroll down the Assignment List until you find Mouse - view direction (on) with SHIFT + O next to itDouble click the "Joystick" column on that linePress the middle mouse key in the key boxYou should see "Button 03" (or whatever your middle mouse key happens to be called) appearNote that the key appears to be set to Reset view or somesuch by default, so you'll lose that assignment (or will have to change one of them to something else) if you do this.Let me know if this did the trick :)
October 24, 200619 yr I tried this last weekend, but the mouseclicks weren't accepted at all... Pity, because I would also LOVE to have this option!
October 24, 200619 yr Were the mouseclicks not accepted in the control setup screen or in-game? If in the control setup screen, make sure you've selected "Mouse Look" as the controller you're configuring (there's a dropdown menu at the top of the screen, below the tabs). If you have "CH Products USB Yoke" (or whatnot) selected, the control setup obviously won't recognize mouse clicks as it's expecting you to set up the Yoke.
October 24, 200619 yr Not only, is not being able to map a mouse button to a command a shame, but I also miss the ability to walk about the cabin!!!Please tell me if there is anybody working on an alternative? As I heard that Activecamera will not do a FSX vesion.
October 24, 200619 yr Thank you, Janne. Using your instructions, I can assign "Mouse - view direction (on) to the middle mouse button. Trouble is, it assigns this to three separate commands, all of which have the same name. The most obvious difference between the commands is the keys to which they are assigned: Space, ^ Space, and Shift + O.The result is that pressing the middle mouse button seems to have no effect. Actually, I am guessing it does have an effect, but the other two assignments are cancelling it out. This is confirmed when I press Shift + O on the keyboard and go into mouse look mode: if, after looking around with the mouse, I press the middle mouse button, the cursor changes from a crosshairs to a pointer. That is, the middle mouse button is toggling me OUT of mouse look mode. So something is happening with the button, just not what I want to happen...Any suggestions? I've tried deleting the other two assignments, but they are all tied together. Assign one and you assign all three. Delete one and you delete all three.
October 24, 200619 yr >Not only, is not being able to map a mouse button to a>command a shame, but I also miss the ability to walk about the>cabin!!!>>Please tell me if there is anybody working on an alternative?>As I heard that Activecamera will not do a FSX vesion.Already built-in to FSX. Just assign the controls. They are not assigned to obvious keys by default simply because the default FS aircraft don't have cabins.Allcott
October 24, 200619 yr Are we talking about eyepoints? I'm trying to find a comparable way to use fsx and active camera like controls. I have eyepoints keys down pat, however, they don't work very fast and are cumbersome.Any ideas how to speed up the eyepoint controls? Way too slow to be useful.Charles
October 24, 200619 yr >The result is that pressing the middle mouse button seems to>have no effect. Actually, I am guessing it does have an>effect, but the other two assignments are cancelling it out.You can actually delete two of the three assignments - FSX allows you to set more than one key to the same action, so if you select one of the three and click on "Delete assignment" it removes the selected setting. However, I tried removing every other setting but the one assigned to my mouse, and the mouse look still wouldn't work. I'm not sure why that is :/ Still, you might want to try it just to be sure.
October 24, 200619 yr If you have a mouse with more than 3 buttons (left, middle, right) you can assign for example "space" to the 4th button. Do this in the mouse configuration under windows.
October 24, 200619 yr Just a heads up-I messed around with this for awhile and found that the middle mouse button works fine- but only when already in mouselook!Stupid...This is the only thing that's really bugged me about FSX so far.Basically, if you select 'mouse look' from the dropdown, then you are configuring controls which will work ONLY WHEN ALREADY IN MOUSELOOK MODE!So try assigning it again- you will see that if you press space to enter mouselook mode, you can then press the middle mouse button to EXIT mouselook mode- but there is no way to get INTO mouselook mode with the mouse. Totally retarded....The best suggestion is about- in your mouse software try assigning spacebar to the middle mouse button.
October 24, 200619 yr >However, I tried removing every other setting but the one>assigned to my mouse, and the mouse look still wouldn't work.>I'm not sure why that is :/ Still, you might want to try it>just to be sure.I tried this too -- by deleting key assignments, I can get rid of the other two "Mouse Look" entries, but I still can't turn mouse look on with the middle button. (By clicking it twice, though, I can turn it OFF.)
October 27, 200619 yr The best solution I've found so far is to download and install Microsoft's IntelliPoint 5.5 mouse driver. (I'm using a Logitech mouse, but the MS driver is working fine.) Unlike my previous IntelliPoint driver (v. 5.1), it lets you assign a keystroke to the middle button AND it lets you do this for different programs. So, I can leave my middle button as normal for FS9/ActiveCamera, but when I run FSX, the driver automatically redefines the button as shift-O.
October 27, 200619 yr >The best solution I've found so far is to download and>install Microsoft's IntelliPoint 5.5 mouse driver.>AND it lets you do this for different programsGreat tip! I'm going to give this a try tomorrow! I already thought about some similar solution but didn't like to change the middle-mouse-button behaviour everytime after playing FS X. But now I know Intellipoint can assign specific settings to specific programs, this might just be the tip of the day! :)
