October 25, 200619 yr Can FSX have hurricanes or tornados? Have there ever been addons that can do this? I was hoping FSX with its improved wind handling could help this become a reality...
October 25, 200619 yr You could quite easily simulate what most real world pilots do when there is a hurricane or tornado about, by simply not taking off :-)Although I know some aircraft do fly in these conditions, such as meteorological study aircraft, for example. In any case, you could find out by downloading real weather data for an area where there currently is weather phenomenon such as that and see what it's like in the sim. I imagine FS would not emulate it well though and that's fair enough, since for most applications in the world of aviation weather like that is generally avoided. There is of course the possibility that the vicious winds and up/downdrafts could be emulated with the SDK thermal utility, but it seems like a lot of effort to create weather that would shake most aircraft to bits, and in any case, the cloud sets to match the air mass data are probably not available. October 25, 200619 yr In 2004 i had the add-on FS Flight Ventures and there are tornado's in it, looked really cool to. Maybe they will also make it for FSX, it was done by Abacus.
October 25, 200619 yr >you could find out by downloading real weather>data for an area where there currently is weather phenomenon>such as that and see what it's like in the sim...Most of the weather stations FS gets its info from go down during hurricanes, (I'm not sure if that's intentional to protect the equipment or if the weather knocks them out). So you'll usually find clear weather in the Sim in those situations. But if you go there when the hurricane is on its way you can see things building up. I had my Cessna almost flipped over while taxiing in strong winds in FS9 once.
