I have one Joystick...

Featured Replies

Like the topic says, I only have one joystick to set up, a Saitek AV8R-01. AV8R, get it??

It has two throttles, I set one for Throttle 1 Axis and the other for my Elevator Trim Axis. (I will make a separate confiiguration for two-engine aircraft).

Twist handle, = Rudder Axis.

X and Y axes mapped to Ailerons Axis and Elevator Axis, and two buttons, one on each side, for left and right brakes.

So far, so good...

To look around the cockpit, I mapped the Hat Switch to Cockpit Look Left, Right, Up and Down.

The only other thing I want is to have an outside view of the aircraft.

In P3D the Hat Switch automatically maps to the outside view and I can rotate my view around the aircraft and check out the scenery in any direction. MSFS won't let me do that. It says the hat switch is already mapped.

I don't like the External Camera. It is fixed behind the aircraft and the plane looks distorted. It has several Quick Views, but you can't cycle them with the Q key, like you can the cockpit Quick Views.

Drone Camera looks nice and can be easily selected with a hot key, Number pad End key.. but you have to first hit the Number Lock key to activate it. Once activated it is easy to move the drone camera around with WASD keys. and rotate with the keypad number keys. So now I have to hit the Number Lock key again to activate the number keys in the keypad. Eventually I get so confused, I can't find my way back to the cockpit view.

So is there an art to this?

I have the same AV8R-01 joystick as you do and mapped some of my switches manually. When in the MSFS 2020 controls setup menu, I see axis movements when I move the joystick around, so I assume it is recognized by the game.

My problem is that once I start a flight, my AV8R-01 has no effects on the game whatsoever. I can control the game via mouse or keyboard, but the AV8R-01 does absolutely nothing.

I was wondering if there is a setting somewhere that has to be enabled in order to use the AV8R-01 stick as an input device.

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

My stick seems to work in game. I didn't have to do anything special. After changing the default profile it changed the name and saved. Make sure you save your settings.

Thanks dobee51. I finally got my joystick working. Its a long process. I reloaded FSX to figure out what numbers correspond to the switches on the Saitek. Turns out T1 to T8 correspond to MSFS 2020 buttons 5 to 12 in the same order and 1 to 4 are used for the top buttons. Your advice to make separate assignments for each axis was very helpful. Thanks and happy flying.

I have the same lame joystick but I guess I’m stuck with it since everything else is sold out online. Any way to share profiles we’ve created? I haven’t made one yet.
