October 27, 200619 yr Hi all,can anyone help me.I have been following with interest all the discussions re fsx and frame rates etc. and I take my hat off to all those who have been able to help those like me who are technically challenged. My problem is this, i have undertaken most of the tweaks suggested and am doing ok with the exception that every now and then the scenery freezes and goes all blocky. Sound is ok and so are the cockpit visuals. This blocking coincides with pointing the mouse to a control say if I am on auto pilot and want to change the heading.Help???AMD ATHLON 64 3200+ ( overclocked 10%)ASUS A8N-ERADEON RX800 TD256E2 X KINGSTON PC3200 DDR 512WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2
October 27, 200619 yr There are several topics on this issue. It is very complex, but if you disable the cockpit tooltips, your problem will disappear.Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
October 28, 200619 yr Many thanks for your reply Josef. Have done as you say but it has not resolved the problem.I notice that it only happens when I change views. I use a CH yoke.Any more thoughts?Richard
October 28, 200619 yr I haven't tried this myself but in the graphics section of the FSX.cfg there is the following line: "PAUSE_ON_LOST_FOCUS=1". Try changing the 1 to a 0 and see if that helps.
October 28, 200619 yr Thanks Stewart, have just done that as you suggested but no dice.Scenery still blocking out on changing views.Richard
October 28, 200619 yr Hi Stewart, have just changed contollers from ch yoke to MS sidewinder and that has made no difference either. So must? be something in fx.Have done all the other tweaks as suggested by various people and have good visuals and frame rates other than this blocking which happens when fx loaded and on changing views. It blocks out in different colours. Sound and cockpit ok.Richard
October 28, 200619 yr I think perhaps increasing your memory to 2 gigs might help or perhaps your graphics card to a 512mg card. But Im not sure which of these would be the best option if you can only do one. Also are you running Ken Salters FS Autostart? If not, download and try that too.
October 28, 200619 yr I'm running a 256Mb card but with 2Gb memory and do not have this problem. Changes of view happen instantly or with the mearest of flicker . Many people including the Mathijs at aerosoft recommend 2GB of main memory as the sweet spot for FSX running smoothly.I think I agree.Hope this helpsLen
October 28, 200619 yr Well thanks for all your help guys, but nothing seems to work so I guess it's back to FS9 untill I can build myself a new machine when DX10 comes around. It's all very frustrating not just for me but for all simmers.I think Microsoft have not done the flight sim community any favours at all in producing this product. I find it very difficult to understand how all microsofts expertise cannot produce something that works. There are so many cockups in this game that they should be ashamed of themselves.Richard
October 28, 200619 yr One more point.I loaded fsx but left fs9 on my hard drive as well.FSX appears on the add/remove file but FS9 does not, yet fs9 still runs???If so how would I go about removing fs9 apart from deleting it bit by bit???Any thoughts.Richard
October 28, 200619 yr On your start button menu select programs, microsoft games, microsoft flight smulator 2004, uninstall microsoft flight simulator 2004. Then check and make sure any residual folders relating to FS2004 are deleted.
October 28, 200619 yr Thats strange on my installation there are options for troubleshooting, flight instructor, fs 2004,fs2004 readme and uninstall ms2004. Did you do a full install from disc or a custom install? A custom install may have left these options off. Try inserting disc one into the drive and see if you get an uninstall option from there. If not try a full reinstall and that should cure it.

October 28, 200619 yr Stewart, before I do this tell me is there any evidence of a conflict between FS9 and FSX.
