October 29, 200619 yr I spent some time checking out this forum and I have come across a few threads that I was hoping some of you might be able to comment on. I am not complaining about FSX, so please try to leave the bashing and cheerleading out of it if you can. I am just curious about a few things.1) Somebody in this forum said that FSX was designed to be used a couple of years from now. From what I gathered, they were suggesting that the average computer will be able to run FSX with descent settings and good FPS in three years...Is that true? If so, is that normal for the MS Flight Sims. I started simming with FS95, and since then I have not had to wait for three years to get good results. I know that this sim is more advanced than the others, but will it really be three years before a Wal-Mart special can run it well? If that is true, and assuming that history repeats itself, doesn't that mean that FS11 will be coming out just about the time that an average computer can fully appreciate FSX?2) Is it possible that patches will be released for the shelf life of FSX, or will it be like FS9 with just the 9.1 update. I just read a few different forums from when FS9 was released, and there were plenty of complaints, but the update only addressed two of them that I could find. Does Aces only make updates to a certain point, or will they continue to improve FSX over the next few years?3) I heard quite a few people saying that FSX is directed at the gamers more than the simmers. Can anybody comment on this with facts instead of guesswork? I was just curious because even though my Flight Sim experience doesn't date back to the SubLogic days, I have still been in the community for 11 years or so and I would be a little disappointed if this was true.4) Is there any chance that Windows Vista and DX10 will be a big improvement for FSX? Someone said that whatever improvements DX10 makes will be taken away by the more resource demanding Vista. Since these products are not on the market yet I know that it might be hard to know for sure, but maybe some of the experts in here can take a stab at this one anyway.5) Is it possible for a creative designer to put missions similiar to those in FSX in FS9? I was curious about this because I know that FS9 has the ability to determine certain perameters in the flying lessons and check rides. I was thinking that if the instructor can tell when I am "too high", wouldn't there be a way to tell when I have reached a specific area or met certain criteria? By the way, before people start hammering me for this question, keep in mind that I am not a designer so I have no idea how these things work...just asking.6) Is it okay to overclock the #### out of my video card if I am going to be getting a new one in a few months anyway. Since I will need a new card for DX10, I was thinking about overclocking the card I have until it smokes, but I don't want to damage the rest of my computer. How long will a card overclocked 25% last until it burns my house down? Thanks in advance for any help
October 29, 200619 yr Author Hi Brian; 1. If your running FS9 you can run FSX 2.Don't know...and neither does anyone else. 3. The ADVERTISING was directed more at gamers this time. 4. There are people who will give you thier OPINION...but your's is as good as thiers. 5. Several already have released "Adventures" for FS9...or go to the library and download "Doughert's Dangerous and Difficult Approaches"...If you land in one piece...you've met the criteria. 6. Shouldn't need to if you've got a 256MB Ati card. I'm getting good visuals with an old Ati9600XT. Denny Retired Professional Tourist
