Virgin Gorda Airport

Featured Replies

Greetings everyone, I have a small favor to ask. I've made a lot of scenery for Virgin Gorda Airport in FS2004. And I've always been bothered that the mesh has been really ugly. I was hoping that FSX would have better mesh and textures for that region SO! Could anyone take a screenshot for me and post it here of Virgin Gorda in FSX? High settings if you can, and boat and car traffic too. Thanks in advance! This should help me decide whether or not to buy FSX.

Sorry, Julian, not much default auto traffic in the Caribbean, and none in Virgin Gorda. Here are some pictures, but I think that they are part of tests on my scenery projects of the area (but without any of my custom objects, like terminal, all houses, landmarks like the Bitter End Yacht club, Leverick Bay resort, Saba Rock, the Baths, etc., sailboats, catamarans, luxury yachts - the Benetti "Emerald Seas" - plenty of stuff):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/160348.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/160349.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/160350.jpgI repeat, this is not default. For example, it is my land and water class. Also, I do not have much boat traffic turned on and cannot say if there is any. And I have water reflections turned off. But, I would advise you to get FS X. The entire Caribbean is much better - finally, all the land masses align with the altitude mesh and there are no sharp cliffs anywhere, as you can see with Virgin Gorda. Also, the Virgin Gorda airport should be in the right place, although I am using my version, and haven't taken a look at the default. (By the way, Julian, didn't the airport close last November when Little Dix Bay wouldn't finance it anymore? I don't imagine that it has re-opened yet.)There is one small problem with Tortola and some of the smaller islands (Norman, Peter, Salt, etc.) - they are missing the altitude mesh.I would be glad to let you have it, but it is 166 kB, and exceeds the forum limits for attachments, so just let me know in the scenery design forum when you get FS X and I shall send it to you.Best regards.Luis

Wow! I'm very impressed with your mesh for Virgin Gorda, and its great to see another developer making scenery for the island. When I get FSX, I'll definitely want to try it out. And if you need any help with your project, let me know--I just finished a 3rd version of my Virgin Gorda Airport, and I'd be happy to let you use it in your project if you wanted. I'll post some screenshots if you want to see. Also, could you show me some pics of your custom objects? I love the idea of flying over Virgin Gorda and seeing all the landmarks.

Hello Julian,Thanks, in fact, I took another look and the default does not have the airport in the right place yet. That is my version of the island in the images above. The problem with the FS 9 version was not the mesh, which was pretty much the same as the new FS X version, but the land mass itself which did not align with the mesh. This resulted in some ugly cliffs where the sea-level water cut off the mesh, and lots of sea-level plains where the land displayed over what should have been water. This has been mostly fixed now, except for some of the smaller islands that are not centered on the mesh.I have re-done the entire area, all of the islands are now correctly located and centered on the mesh. Also, I have correctly placed all the airports, there are accurate beaches, golf courses, marinas, landmarks.I don't yet have any pictures of my objects in FS X, sorry, too busy, only pictures in FS 9. Objects include all that were mentioned above, plus the VG Yacht Club, Top of the Baths, girls on the beaches, typical vegetation (including succulents), various of the villas (Katitche Bay Great House, South Sound Villa, etc.), and many typical Caribbean homes. It will all probably be redone for FS X with the new scenery methods, and I would be happy to send you the re-done terrain if you are interested. As I said, just ask in the scenery design forum when you get FS X, always happy to share with a fellow designer in the Caribbean.Best regards.Luis
