How I think real world weather works

Featured Replies

My theory: When you load the sim and select real world weather and start flying it downloads the real weather to the sim. It then never updates the weather again. Instead it uses meteoblue forecasts to change the weather as time passes by in the sim world. Since it is a forecast going forwards it may become more inaccurate as time passes.

I suspect they did it this way for multiplayer reasons so everyone sees the same weather. If your friend is flying 30 miles ahead of you then you will see the same weather when you reach his location since you are all using the same weather. Can't really do that if you update the real world weather outside of the zone you are flying in like other addon weather like Active Sky did.

I flew from Madrid to Cardiff In the Airbus. Right now Cardiff is being pummeled by a 100 mile wide rain storm but by the time I reached Cardiff the storm had passed to the East and i had light clouds. This is clearly wrong since the storm is still over Cardiff in real life. So i cancel the flight and go back to the main menu and start a new flight at Cardiff. The UI live weather icon shows rain (and I checked it has not flipped to preset) but when the sim loads I am back in the same light clouds. So now I shutdown the flightsim and start it up again and start from Cardiff again. Now I am in heavy rain within a 100 mile wide rain storm. So i think the current real world weather is loaded once and not again no matter what you do.
