September 5, 20205 yr hey guys, I am thinking about getting a new rig as my current one is getting a bit outdated and starts showing its age. I have not completely kept up with the latest and greatest, and I understand nvidia is about to release the 3000 series in October but they prices will be high for a while, so unless someone gives me compelling reasons, I am happy going with a RTX 2080ti Here is the link to the config I am thinking of, would that be a good fit for P3D and eventually MSFS? https://www.microcenter.com/product/624618/dell-alienware-aurora-r11-gaming-computer Thank you so much in advance for any insight! Happy landings! John.
September 5, 20205 yr Hey John. One thing I don't like about these pre-built systems is that you're at the mercy of the builder when it comes to parts selection. For example, that system uses 2933 MHz DDR4 RAM, but there's no indication on manufacturer of that RAM and no specification on CAS latency or voltages. For all we know, it could be some cheapo CL19 RAM. Same goes for the graphics card, SSD and motherboard. And what about the cooling? Does it use a high-quality AIO or some cheap junk that will leak in a couple years? My recommendation is to buy the parts and do it yourself. That way you can get exactly what you want. These sims rely pretty heavily on fast RAM, so I'd go with at least 3600 MHz CL16 RAM like this great kit: https://www.microcenter.com/product/627422/gskill-trident-z-neo-series-rgb-32gb-(2-x-16gb)-ddr4-3600-cl16-dual-channel-memory-kit-f4-3600c16d-32gtzn---black Don't know about the 10900k (I just asked about that in a new thread and the choice to go with that or wait for Zen 3). I'd wait for Nvidia's 3000 series. Even the RTX 3070 will give the RTX 2080 Ti a run for its money. -Elliot Edited September 5, 20205 yr by Eman Intel Core i9 10900k @ 5.1 GHz / Asus Maximus Hero XII / Nvidia RTX 3090 FE / 32 GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 CL16-16-16-36 / Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB NVMe / Noctua NH-D15 / EVGA Supernova 1600 T2 / Honeycomb Alpha Yoke / CH Pro Pedals / Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant / HP Reverb G2

Between getting ready to move and a busy schedule at my airline (I know these days it sound odd) I just dont have the time to do it myself.... I read a bit more about the 3000 and yes, probably worth the wait. I will hold until they're out and weight my options.
