November 12, 200619 yr I re-installed FSX today. During the process, many nice pictures are presented. I wondered: What hardware + software did Aces use? Will I/we ever be able to run FSX with views like that?Just some thoughts and dreams while watching those pictures!Haraldh F.
November 12, 200619 yr Hi Haraldh,>>What hardware + software did Aces use? Most of the screenshots that the ACES team posted were probably done by pausing the sim, refreshing the scenery and then taking the shot. Somewhere they stated they used mainstream hardware as their budget precluded little else.>>Will I/we ever be able to run FSX with views like that?If hardware were progressing at a pace we experienced since FS9 was released, the answer would be yes. However, it's been stated that CPU's are headed for multiple core processors with little or no speed increases. That doesn't bode well for FSX. Only time will tell. Jim Karn
November 12, 200619 yr Hi Jim! Thanks!I hope that it will be as before: when FS9 was new, my PC wasn't. Many sliders had to be moved leftwards, there was a lot of tweaking tips form those who had found how to get decent fps despite we had weak equipment. Then I got my present PC. I can run FS9 with mostly "right" sliders, still getting good fps!My FSX is now where FS9 was before!I do hope that the development will still be escalating, at least till we have FSX running well! :-)Haraldh
November 12, 200619 yr Do a search on tweaks. If you have a good cpu and gpu you can get that look now with good FPS. The only problems most of us have now without a good cpu and gpu are the land class and ACES love of sand and brownish textures for everything but summer. Also you need at least 1.5 GB ram. 2 is better and I guess 3 to 4 must be the best. I have 1.5 and mine is doing ok with that.
