November 13, 200619 yr Hi allWell with the hard work from our very clever colleages in AVSIM and a little from Ace's most of us now have flyable sims,But I now call upon Aces to get the bugs fixed in Win. XP,as soon as possible, and not wait for Vista and Direct X [x] as a lot of us can not afford to update and upgrade our PC.I personally have reported seven problems to tell_fs. Probably the most annoying is the loss of engine power in the middle of a flight, this has happened to me four times depending on which route I am flying. I have just Planned my second round the world in the Barron and it put me in the sea 70 minutes into my flight between Belfast and Reykjavik in Iceland and FSX has no life rafts yet! This fault is not my PC, the last time it occured my FPS were around the 40 mark with real world weather turned off as I thought it may be that what was the cause. All the best.Rex.Asus A8N32 SLI / AMD64x2-4800 @2.633mhz. / 2 GeForce 7900gto @650mhzin SLI set to 16xAA. / 2GB corsair XMX3200C2PT @2.5,8,4,4. /Tagon-U25 800W / Viewsonic 19" 922 2ms responce. /Water cooled CPU With swiftec storm block, and Danger den pump ect. Case temp 24.1c CPU temp under load 36c gpu under load 42c these gpu run 12deg c cooler then my previous 2 XFX7800gt's.3D Mark 06 score 8825 CPU score 1947.Most sliders set to 75% auto gen to 25% in FSX.Thanks again to all who helped me with my set up.Best regardsRex
November 13, 200619 yr Icing it is!Had this over the weekend in the Goose while flying in winter weather and thought the throttle controller went bad, but then I saw the carb air temperature gauge falling and the two levers next to it for carb heat.Nice effect, to add to the realism.
November 13, 200619 yr Thank you both for your help,This must be new,I never had it in FS9.Will engage the De icers and try the flight again,I was only at 6000 the last time.Thank you both again for your help.Regards.RexHi again.Checked out on a problem flight. Now there is no problem,You were both correct.it was Iceing. Thanks again.Rex
November 13, 200619 yr Hi,It has been mentioned in this forum already some time ago: FSX does have icing modelled!Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
November 13, 200619 yr I forgot to mention that in the same flight, the airpseed indicator dropped to zero, and turning on the pitot heat fixed it. I think this is also new.
November 13, 200619 yr Bear in mind that icing can happen even in seemingly warm conditions well above freezing too (most aircraft manuals state that the risk kicks in at about 10 degrees above freezing, and of course gets worse the higher you go):Without getting too long-winded and technical, essentially what happens is that the carburettor induction process draws so much energy from the surrounding air, it causes the temperature to drop in its vicinity, thus freezing water droplets around the inlet. There is a bit more to it than this, but that description is close enough to what actually happens to fix it in your mind. Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
November 14, 200619 yr I had icing issues last night flying from Pearson Airfield down to Newport KONP. I was flying real weather (terrible winds and #### near zero visibility on the coast) and watched my speedometer falling bit by bit. I KNOW that I had issues with this in prior FS versions and was well aware of the signs of icing. I kicked in the de-icers and pitot heat and all my issues went away, except for finding runway 16 in the soup...
November 14, 200619 yr Carburetor icing can occur in Outside Air Temperatures (OAT) up to around 70 degrees F.
November 15, 200619 yr Hi JozefI am afraid I missed that post,But thank you for the information.RegardsRex:-wave
