November 17, 200619 yr Does anyone know why the elevator trim goes from the takeoff position to pinned at nose up during the take off roll? I have observed this on the 172 everytime I try to fly it. The autopilot is NOT on, and I have checked for any conflicts in the controls and can find none. As I start the takeoff roll, the trim will go full up and will not respond to any corrective inputs. Did a search on this but did not find any resolutions. Thanks for the help.Regards,Joe Regards, Joe Esposito
November 17, 200619 yr Are you sure that the autopilot is not on? I have noticed this "feature" only when the autopilot is turned on even though the "Alt" button is not enabled and no vert speed is entered. R-
November 17, 200619 yr Checked the AP on/off button..dark. Pushed the AP on/off button, lites up...on. Pushed it again..dark..off. Start my takeoff roll and watch the trim go to full nose up. When I first saw this I thought for sure the Ap was on, but according to the Ap switch it is off. Unless there is another way to turn the Ap on and off and I have just missed it.Joe Regards, Joe Esposito
November 17, 200619 yr It sounds like an autopilot issue and the solution is to create a new flight. At some point you may have corrupted the save flight for this scenario - perhaps you changed from an aircraft with a/p on to the 172 before saving? If it still does after that, then it's a runaway trim issue - the keyboard repeat may be stuck, or the button assignment corrupted. Change the assignment buttons for elevator trim on both keyboard and joystick, see if the problem goes away. Also, you should not - EVER - put the a/p on while on the ground. Thhis will alweays push the nose up trim, even after you switch off the a/p. Use the keyapd `5` key (numlock OFF) to centralise controls when you first start the sim, then check the trim from there, adjusting as necessary.A tip I picked up from previous versions of FS works even better in FSX: Use the trim to take off. start the take/off roll, apply a modest amount of up elevator on the joystick, hold it there, then wind on up elevator trim until the aircraft lifts off at Vr. This will show you the correct trim setting for that particular flight on that particular day and is a reasonable substitute for the `feel` you get from a real plane.Allcott

Trip went to full-up when I switched the A/P on, but I got normal trim function back immediately when I switched the A/P off.

Trip went to full-up when I>switched the A/P on, but I got normal trim function back>immediately when I switched the A/P off.>>>Yes, as I said. It doesn't return when you switch off the a/p so if you don't actually see you're out of trim you have a very nasty surprise coming when you try to rotate. This is one of those `old` things that ACES really, really needed to fix for FSX, and didn't. Autopilots don't generally function by moving the trim tabs. It's simply bad programming and should be on the patch list, but you know it won't be. It will need a whole new game engine to deal with that. Perhaps Simconnect may permit an outside A/P to function correctly?Allcott
November 20, 200619 yr Hi-Have similar issue - putting in nose up trim with my assigned button on stick gives me full flaps instead - IE kicks nose up. Don't know yet if it applies to all aircraft. You may want to go to external view & look at flaps.Lew

But you could use the same technique - changing the assignment on the stick button then changing it back.Allcott
November 20, 200619 yr Hi Allcott-Tx - will try tonite.BTW - How do you change the basic 4 indexed views on camera toggle - I ended up with top-down instead of chase view, & want to (but can't) change side view? Still playing with it, but no good news. Also screwed up - what/where are the basic toggled views stored, & how do I change them - IE: how do I get back to original F9 - F12 assignments?Tx,Lew
November 20, 200619 yr You can restore default assignments from the menu just by clicking on the icon. Be warned that this restores ALL the defaults, not just the ones you might want restoring. Allcott
November 21, 200619 yr Thanks-Started up again last night, and presto - the original default views sequence reappeared! Didn't have to do the restore - maybe FSX has a mind of it's own & tunes in on mine!!!Lew
